1 Speech was never free history tells us that.

Frank Hardy's books were banned he was imprisoned and for years persecuted. The CPA members of which were Jews, Academics, Psychiatrists ordinary citizens not planning any revolution but supporters of ideas were blacklisted and opportunity withheld in their places of work. ASIO had files on all manner of people those against the bomb  to Catholics. Conscientious objectors were jailed along with those opposing Vietnam too loudly such as Jim Cairns Deputy PM of Australia. Character assassination and innuendo was commonly used by the government and ASIO against targets at will with the help of the media of the day.  Indigenous people like Dr Gary Foley were banned from public service without his knowledge. Department heads were informed. These people were protesters intelligent articulate people applying their belief "free speech" Unlike Andrew Bolt they were victims of secret policing  the Australian version of the American McCarthy era a historical fact. Doors of opportunity were closed to them in a world that preached equality and opportunity for all. Speech is not free in any society where the politics of interests is at play and paranoia exists at their loss. Free speech is an illusion as much as seven virgins in heaven is None of our institutions advocate free speech. So cut the crap Bolt. You however weren't conspired against you broke the law and you were caught and that even happens to those in power and their friends at times.

2 Speech has always been a business and is more so today than ever before. When print media is taking a shellacking and hemorrhaging money as it is today it's even more in bed withe power an money hanging on for it's survival. It's alliances have never been more obvious. Why do Abbott and Murdoch dine a lot because they have a mutual interest in speedos and Triathlons?

The notion of free speech in the the media is the biggest myth. Murdochs interests are well known and he controls 70% of the print media on the east coast. He is globally aligned with business and his empire is regarded as aligned to big business and right wing politics he offers no news and only commentary for and on the behalf of those interests. He has no interest in NEWS. Bolt you simply amplify those interests and have like a trained monkey echoed them.

Life is compromise even Abbott has come to realise that. The budget is a fabricated emergency that 1 Hockey admitted to in NZ  and now Abbott is also admitting it telling us we can afford this war without raising taxes. Currently it's acknowledged that the poorest electorates, those that vote Labour have been paying the most for the changes that have been made totally contradicting Hockey's claim that everyone is paying equally. However you Bolt just reveal yourself as unable to adjust your thinking to that reality. That you don't care for fairness. You just repeat the same old faith full right wing song. Labour has shown to be bipartisan on the war. What has this government shown...nothing except increase policing even more policing your dream of free speech and our notion of rights. Free speech is your faith based theory.

 

Who are we fighting for? And what are we actually doing?

This is a question that we have all been asking. The fact is our meddling is merely complicating the situation. You wouldn't know that the state of Kerala  in India was the first democratically elected Communist state in the world and with it  came the highest Literacy rate 95% the best Health service and the best unionised working conditions in the country. There was no war.

Don't try to blame Labour, Democracy is about compromise and the government has approached that the Abbott way like a boxer no compromise. The least advantaged that can afford to pay are paying the most. That's what's has been argued  and  what your advocating isno compromise is the fairest solution. When capital cuts workers adrift for the sake of profit and the government wants to do the same. They believe that families and friends will pick up the slack and help. I'd call that capitalist forced socialism wouldn't you for only a section of our community.

 Is "were ok mate you can look after yourselves" the Australian ethos you keep rattling on about Bolt? Is this attitude you want Muslims, Italians, Indians and other cultures in this country to adopt in your grand Assimilation credo Bolt? Because these cultures actually do look out for their own and save the government heaps already.

No faith based theories aren't based on probability your right. Science is not about Proof either unless your a pure mathamatician. It's about statistical probability, about a community of scientists and community at large  that take the gathered information  try to draw conclusions from it and make decisions we hope for the greater good.
