New Zealand would be honoured to take Behrouz Boochani. Australia be damned

Australia's Shame

reinforces, I think, what a monstrosity hard borders really are. To function they invent categories. The worthy and unworthy, even going as far as to assign dehumanising “points” to prospective migrants. Perhaps the only thing worse than the hard border itself is the in-between places it breeds: Australia’s offshore detention centres; the Mexican borders towns where refugees and asylum seekers are sent to await their application’s fate; the Greek holding camps where Africa and the Middle East’s desperate and hungry hang their hopes on the remote promise of a future in northern or western Europe.

Challenge to Chinese-language election signs fails to oust Treasurer

Australia has laws that make no sense. No sense at all. If you attempt to rob a bank and fail apparently you will get off. Particularly if you've won Lotto after your efforts.

If you don't plan to and rob a Mars Bar but do on the spur of the moment and are Aboriginal and under 16 you will get 6 months.

The details of my argument might be sketchy but the principles shown here are basically correct. (ODT)

Liberal MPs Josh Frydenberg and Gladys Liu will keep their seats after a court dismissed a challenge to their election wins — but a senior party official could still face further action for authorising misleading election signage in their seats.

Scientists say the lack of moisture in the landscape is a key reason this year’s bushfire have been so severe.

 LNP Shame

Yes, Australia has always had bushfires: but 2019 is like nothing we've seen before | Australia news | The Guardian

When we think of others as XMAS Trump still only thinks of HIMSELF
