Fighting Fake News with REAL, 28/12/22, George Santos followed Trump's advice, Is there a happy Russian?, A Great Aussie Vandal gets awarded,

In a Walter Mitty World Republicans have Trump as their role model and all are happy

An incoming New York congressman is being urged to resign after admitting that he lied about being Jewish, as well as falsely claiming he attended top colleges and worked for Wall Street banks. Republican representative-elect George Santos revealed in an interview on Monday that he lied about working for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, as well as attending New York University, describing it as “résumé embellishment”.

Santos’s biography was called into question earlier this month after The New York Times reported that he misrepresented a number of claims relating to – but not limited to – his ancestry, education, employment, charity work, and property ownership.

Santos also admitted to lying when he claimed that he owned 13 properties when he was not in fact a landlord. He denied committing a crime anywhere in the world, even though the Times had uncovered Brazilian court records showing that he had been charged with fraud as a young man after he was caught writing stolen cheques.

This is the American Pride The Global model of Democracy in action, Trump didn't write the playbook but sure as hell Santos his apprentice followed it

Santos’ eight-point victory over Democrat Robert Zimmerman—someone who actually graduated from college and is Jewish—may partially be attributed to how he misrepresented his background. But winning a Congressional race also takes money, and one of the lingering questions is where Santos got his. Financial disclosure forms reveal that by 2022, Santos loaned his new congressional campaign and political action committee at least $600,000. (His disclosure forms from his first Congressional bid in 2020 said he earned just $55,000 per year.)

His 2022 financial disclosure forms showed more than $1 million in income coming from a company he started called the Devolder Organization LLC. But that math doesn’t add up: the Washington Post reported that as of July 2022, Devolder’s revenue was less than $50,000, according to data modeling from the financial data company Dun & Bradstreet.

It’s difficult to decipher what exactly Santos’ actual biography is; sometime between December 25 and December 27, he deleted the entire “about” section from his campaign website. But Santos did clear the air about something. When the 118th Congress begins on January 3, his dubious history will not be a problem. “I will be sworn in,” he assured WABC. “I will take office.”

Russian sausage magnate who criticised Putin’s war dies after hotel fall
The joy of being Russian. Will a happy Russian put their hands in the air?
An unnamed police official told India’s NDTV news outlet they suspected that he took his own life after becoming depressed about the death of his friend, who was found dead in the same hotel.
Vladimir Bidenov was found unconscious in his hotel room on Thursday, surrounded by empty wine bottles.

In July, he posted a story on his WhatsApp messaging app, criticising Russia’s missile attacks on Kyiv as “terrorism”. He was referring to reports of a girl that had been pulled from rubble after her house had been shelled.

Shortly afterwards, Antov apologised for the post and said it had been posted by someone else. He said he was “a supporter of the president and my country’s patriot” and “shared the goals” of the Kremlin’s invasion.

Alexei Idamkin, Russia’s consul general in Calcutta, told the Tass news agency that there was no foul play in the lawmaker’s death.

Alexei Maslov, who was the commander in chief of Russia’s ground forces from 2004 to 2008, died on Christmas day at a military hospital in Moscow, his employer said.

Maslov’s death came days after a navy official in charge of non-nuclear submarine building also suffered a “sudden death”.

Award for making Australia a global pariah and lag behind the rest of the world and be proud of it. That’s Hooke a business leader in this country and no friend of Kevin Rudd.

“We were doing sustainable development long before Wall Street discovered ESG,” mining legend Mitch Hooke says.

The veteran of political and industry battlegrounds starred at a recent mining conference where executives debated what other letter should go into the “E” for environmental, “S” for social and “G” for governance equation.

“And I’m sitting there screaming economic,” he told international delegates in Sydney.

“You cannot be in the pink – for social – or the green – for environmental – if you’re not in the black, and that’s what sustainable development gives you.”

Once head of the powerful Minerals Council of Australia, striding the corridors of Parliament House to advise governments, he led the campaign more than 10 years ago against a mining super profits tax.

In Kevin Rudd’s words, Mr Hooke has also been “one of the most destructive voices in Australian national climate change action”.

Accepting the Legend in Mining Award at a glittering industry dinner, Mr Hooke says the Australian mining industry took on board the commitment to sustainable development decades ago and “set up a whole stack of standards”.

“If you look back at where we were in 2002, we have a lot to be proud of,” he says, to a round of applause.
