Bolt's knowledge seems totally lacking blaming Italy for their incorrect policy. Sorry read your source Bolt you might then address facts. It's the EU Bolt. You might as well blame Holland for their poor policy. The fact is real desparation is driving people from Africa to Europe not as Bolt claims for economic opportunity only. People are prepared to risk their lives to do it. Economic opportunity does however exist for the smugglers who since Gaddafi's overthrow in Libya seem to have a free reign.
These deaths can be attributed to the West's interference and overthrow of the Gadaffi regime by the FUKUS Axis. Bolt's advice to the EU not just Italy to take up Abbott's policies to turn back boats is no guarantee of success as the circumstances and numbers aren't the same. So I guess Bolt is suggesting off shore detention camps for children like Manus or Nauru to also hold families for years if necessary. Bribing other poor countries like Cambodia and PNG to take them in.
Bolt's a blowhard he doesn't give a rats about these people his concern is merely a disguise to remind us some of Abbott's policies have worked. The circumstances are however different, Bolt makes no effort to address any of the specific issues only his baleful and misguided propaganda. He'd use the worst suffering to make Abbott look better than the UNHRC have described him.
If you break the numbers down between 28 countries and 20,000 refugees it comes out at 2145 per EU country. That's less than Australia.
Melbourne is not a crimeless city. The night I'm sure was filled with events to substantiate this. Does Bolt decide to select an event at random? Not on your life, a Middle Eastern man was shot.
When Democracy has collapsed and oligarchies business, the wealthy and right wing media control and manage the country in their self interest parliamentary parties are only left to do their bidding. They need to create and manufacture side issues to garner votes and play out the appearance of democratic process among the voters.
Murdoch has elected Islamophobia to be one such issue among others to be raised by News Corp. Fear-mongering supports the struggling right wing governments in the USA, UK and Australia. "we will keep you safe" is their repetative catch cry. However it's not the major issue that really needs to be addressed. Death of Democracy in this country is.
Bolt is just one person in the Murdoch hive to deliver the issues wanted. It's not all in your face it would be too obvious. The real issue how do we return to Democracy where people have power is always left in the dark.
This is one such event if wrong Bolt wont even apologise or raise it again to explain it if right he'll crow and add it to his collection of disconnected events to prove his point disprove someone eslse's. What can be certain it's just an act of media distortion. Western Sydney and Altona Meadow's are not linked nor is Islam and crime but Bolt will try to suggest they are.
There is a level of opportunistic Schadenfreude in all of this for Bolt
It would be a great relief to us all to see the World's Best Treasurer back on the front bench up against the World's Worst Joe Hockey.

Given the US , Canada and Australia and NZ were 'settler colonies' quite unlike other colonies of their time when colonists simply ruled the native populations. What made these three 'settler colonies' so special was they set up to not just rule but went about trying to eliminate the indigenous peoples there at the time.
Australia's wealth came as did America's from a form of murder and slavery. America misappropriated Indian lands killed the Indians because they fought back in the misbelief they had some rights. They then thrived on the backs of Afro American slaves with intense cotton production and creating industry. Australian wealth came at the misappropriation of land and the deaths of Aborigines because they also believed they had some rights to land. Wealth was forged on the backs of a largely Irish prison population and indigenous stock men and station workers. The stock men when recognized as deserving equal pay in the 1960s were simply kicked off what was once their land entirely. There are common elements in this form of settler history. The US, Canada & NZ have recognized their first Nations through treaties we have done next to zip.
The modern day equivalent of a ' settler colony' is Israel and for all intent and purpose they'd kill all Palestinian Arabs in order to remove from their Jewish state's occupied territories and even ones yet to be settled. Why crush them? Because like Indians and Aborigines they are fighting back because with the unfortunate truth that they have some rights. Is it any wonder we support Israel we did the same. We did what they are trying to accomplish now.

All Bolt's doing is stating the obvious that there's no simple solution in the Middle East. The Bolt line is the Hawk, American Rebublican Tea Party cry. Blame O'bama whenever and whereever possible. Given Abbott is a partner in these coalition orders Bolt must be blaming Abbott as well however leaves him out. There is a truth which he omits. Australia is training a reluctant army that nobody trusts. As a consequence we haven't heard a thing in the way of the chest thumping we heard 7-9 months ago when Abbott first sent troops overseas.
The only effective forces against IS have been the Kurds and Shiia Militias. However in unpatriotic fashion Bolt is white anting the Militias because they're supplied and advised by Iran. They are the ones not to be trusted according to Bolt. If it weren't for the Militias IS would be crowing. Now Bolt is the sort of person if you were IS you'd be sure to read for encouragement. When someone purportedly from the opposition is telling you just how fragmented they are and can't do anything to stop you it gives you that warm and fuzzy feeling. Bolt's so busy being anti- Obama he's even whiteanting Abbott.
Iran hasn't fired a shot in anger has only supplied weapons and advisers where requested. The US has bombed the Iraq, Syria, and Yemen as have the Saudis . All Iran has done is told the Saudi's that their aggression is exacerbating and strengthening Houthi rebel resolve in Yemen. They are turning more and more to hatred because of their carpet bombing. A reasonable comment I'd say.

Here we have Murdoch's PR team singing C'mon Aussie C'mon in case other media like Fairfax and the ABC reflect the truth in it. This is a call to Reclaim Australia, Patriots Defence League and any other fascist yobbo groups out there. It's a call to revisit the Cronulla riots if I've ever seen one. It's a vigilante cry to arms? Bolt clearly attacks the police, the immigration dept, and even politicians. It's basically a vilification of the Australian life directed at Muslims. It's the polling drawcard.
This is a call to arms just as much as IS is a call. It's a call to "send a message" just as much as IS. This call is not just one sided it is a call to war a recruitment call to the extremists on both sides. The police have clearly stated this was not "faith based" Bolt calls them gutless liars. The police have repeatedly said these are only "allegations"... One thing is for certain though this rant by Bolt will have a legal escape clause imbedded.
