Warringah candidates Zali Steggall and Tony Abbott shake hands ahead of their debate.

'No Hiluxs … no Taragos, no SUVS, no utes': Abbott takes on rival in debate for his seat

'Do we want experts to tell us how big our cattle herds should be?' the former prime minister asked during a debate with independent rival Zali Steggall. But Ms Steggall said the idea that anyone would lose their ute was 'ridiculous'.

If you had asked Tony Abbott what he wanted at the turn of the last century, he would have said "faster horses" forget cars the poor can't afford them. Our universities are overproducing experts, and we need to slow down. Can you believe it he said if we haven't go what we want we ought to manufacture it start a car industry Holden would be the right name? That man is genuinely has reached his use-by date. If the market determines ones with why is Tony Abbott paid so much, and Shan at Melbourne Uni paid starvation wages?

PhD student Shan Windscript who is casually employed by Melbourne University.

'Starvation wages': Shan teaches at a top uni, but can't make ends meet

When Shan Windscript started teaching history at Melbourne University five years ago, she didn’t imagine she would be paid "starvation wages".
Ms Windscript, a PhD student, said she cleared just over $300 a week for about 20 hours' work at the prestigious university.
"I have to support myself living on starvation wages," she said.
"I have to work seven days a week just to simply earn a living wage and that ultimately and inevitably affects my PhD research. So I feel that if I keep doing this, I’m trapped in this casual teaching, tutoring trap."
What the meaning of merit actually means when business commodifies and privatises all our Institutions and culture according to the free market that's all she's worth as are musicians artists and the majority of Australians working in the gig market. If that's the case why are MPs like Tony Abbott commentators like Andrew Bolt worth so much more? Abbott even said in public " do we need so many experts telling us what we should do suggesting what? That God should show us the way? Revelation and the good book stands above rationality reason and scientific method when it comes to understanding the world in which we live. Progress is not suitable for everyone; the poor can't afford clean air; it's not a public good? (ODT)

WikiLeaks founder faces court again  as the US government kicks off its attempt to bring him to American soil.
The market certainly hasn't determined Julian Assange's worth

'Four months of rain in minutes': Flash flooding in Victoria

Umbrellas were the accessory of choice across the state on Thursday.

Wild weather battered Victoria's north with a tornado-like event and flash flooding, as more rain fell in 15 minutes than the first four months of the year.
Andrew Bolt just keeps telling us all the record breaking weather we are experiencing is "normal"  why? Because he simply has to it's his job.
