IBAC files 55 charges over alleged education training scam

The state's anti-corruption watchdog has charged four people with 55 offences following an investigation into an alleged rort involving dodgy TAFE qualifications and training within Victoria's education and transport sectors.
In December 2015, IBAC launched Operation Lansdowne to investigate allegations that more than $2 million of taxpayers' money had been paid, as part of a scam, to a training company for classes that never happened.

Barbara Lagoa, from Florida, is on Donald Trump's shortlist for the US Supreme Court.

Controversy already courts one of Trump's picks for Supreme Court

One of her recent cases may keep some 85,000 felons who had registered in Florida off the electoral roll. Trump won the state by fewer than 113,000 votes in 2016.

But several Republicans have urged Trump to pick Lagoa, saying the Miami-born daughter of Cuban exiles could solidify Trump's standing in the Latino community in Florida, potentially tipping a close race in his favour in the state with the third-most electoral college votes.
