Fighting Fake News with REAL 3/7/21; Humour, Gaslighting; Academic Freedom, Insider Trading;

 

 

 

Heard prattling on yesterday telling us it was "going to be like the flu" and he was still in the process of "going to fix it" It was a case of heard but not really seen.

Friday’s national cabinet wasn’t a step forward, it was but a stark illustration of the problems in our vaccination roll-out. The crumbling confidence in the national cabinet process to achieve unified purpose and the gaslighting of our medical experts doesn’t help. Nor does the spectacular lack of transparency about what vaccine supplies we’ve either got coming on stream, or what the government is doing about accelerating it in any way possible. Nor does the fact no one wants to say how much of the population needs to be vaccinated before we can open up. The “magic numbers” we need are the ones about vaccine supply.

 A Dangerous Moment for Academic Freedom

The state of Florida just passed a law that — to put it mildly — grossly violates academic freedom. Under the new bill, recently signed by Governor Ron DeSantis, students and faculty will be surveyed about their political views to ensure “intellectual freedom and ideological diversity.”

The real intent appears to be the opposite.

The bill doesn’t specify what will happen with this data once it’s collected. But DeSantis and the bill’s sponsor, state Senator Ray Rodrigues, have suggested the responses could be used to target schools for budget cuts if politicians find the views of student and faculty objectionable.

This is a gross violation of academic freedom, which is supposed to protect students and faculty and pave the way for the production of knowledge.
