There was no hiding the animosity between Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese as Parliament resumed after the winter break.

But Morrison made it personal by accusing Albanese of not bothering to get a briefing on the vaccine rollout from the co-ordinator in charge, General John Frewen.

“That’s not true,” Albanese said across the dispatch box. “You’re just a liar.”

Morrison demanded Albanese withdraw that remark, which he did, but the contest was on from that moment. It was political. And personal.

The basic functions of investment are too important to be left in the hands of private banks only interested in accruing profits. We need public banks — something the Public Banking Act, introduced by Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib, would provide.
