To deny the fact that polar bears are in danger of extinction from
unmitigated climate change, the Daily Caller turned to a Heartland
Institute-affiliated biologist who dismissed scientific computer climate
models as an "opinion."
"The single most important step for polar bear conservation is
decisive action to address Arctic warming," the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service (USFWS) wrote this week in their draft recovery plan for polar bears, which are listed as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. The plan was issued after newly released data from the U.S. Geological Services (USGS) showed that
greenhouse gas emissions are the species' "primary threat," due to the
predicted Arctic sea ice loss that will diminish polar bears' habitat
and food supplies.
But don't worry, polar bears are "doing just fine," according to the Daily Caller.
To refute the federal agencies' warnings, the conservative news publication turned to scientists affiliated with the fossil fuel-backed
Heartland Institute. Daily Caller first quoted Canadian biologist
Mitchell Taylor, who dismissed the USGS' report because he said it is
"based on climate models, not empirical data." The agency's climate
models are "an expression of their opinion," said Taylor, adding
that "it's simply their idea of what will happen if the carbon models
are correct."
Taylor prefers "empirical data" to modeled forecasts of climate
change. However, the empirical data also show that Arctic sea ice has
been declining at record rates. The sea ice levels recently were at
their lowest for the month of May since record-keeping began in the 1980s, and have been on a steady decline since then.

Why is it that bankers in Iceland
were jailed for irresponsible lending? Now Iceland is the fastest
recovering nation in the EU. How is it these bankers knew Greece was a
basket case in 2004 and yet became co-conspirators in irresponsible

created the GFC they the banks were bailed out. JP Morgan etc weren't

Cassidy happen to point out that the

Here we go again discredit everybody
to keep the attention off Tony Abbott.In order to try to repair the
damage caused by his petulant boycott of the ABC Abbott's strategists
tried to formulate a face saving move that seems to have backfired. Get
Turnbull to not go on Q&A on Monday while offering the ABC a peace
token by stopping the boycott on the condition that the ABC move Q&A
to their news division. It would show that Abbott has influence and
the ABC had seen the error of their ways and life could move on.
The problem however with an average
audience of 550,000 Abbott needs Q&A far more than the ABC needs
him. The ABC is an Independent publicly funded broadcaster not a state
funded one. Abbott should never have tried to bully them. His knee jerk
reaction has done him more harm than good and he should just walk away.
He's backed himself into a corner and yes it continues to make him look
an idiot. Bolt's just trying to draw attention away from that.

as simple as Bolt would have us believe. Simplicity is little more than a
sign of ignorance and prejudice of the kind that spear heads the racism
Bolt alludes to.
France may have 5million people that
identify as Muslim but not 5million that Bolt like Hitler identifies as
Muslim. France is in the main Catholic and we don't tar the french with
one brush. Many of these people find themselves economically and
socially alienated in France at the bottom of every socioeconomic scale.
Nor are they blind to world politics either. Israel and Palestine, Iraq
and Syria have grabbed the attention of youth from a variety of
backgrounds. They have become an International cause. French Moroccan,
Algerian, Palestinian, Syrian,and Iraqi aren't cut from the same cloth
nationality or faith wise.
Maybe Jews are feeling not just the
consequence of being Jewish but simply they are symbolic of the
politics of Israel. Which have been extremely prominent recently. Bolt
certainly lumps all Muslims together as he does Jews and doesn't
distinguish the politics involved. So do equally prejudiced Muslims.
What you don't hear from Bolt is the increasing number of Jews both in
and out of Israel that are anti-Israel.
What we do see however is angry young
men running off to or wanting to join a cause or a the war be it in
Syria or even Iraq. Just as young men ran to join the wars in the past
against Franco, WW1 and WW2. We talk of radicalization in a uniform way
when it's not it's much more complex than Bolt would have you believe . Young men have been drawn to a fight more so than girls or older adults. However the reality is often not what they'd hoped for and they would be of use to tell others of the horrors if allowed to return. It doesn't however suit Abbott's politics.
