Support for the Coalition and ALP has not changed in the latest Newspoll despite Prime Minister Scott Morrison experiencing a week to forget in Parliament. Surveying 1526 voters nationally between February 9 and 12, the exclusive poll for The Australian newspaper released on Sunday night found the Coalition’s primary vote remains on a record low of 34 per cent as Labor continues to peak on 41 per cent. But a three-point slump for the Greens (11 per cent to 8 per cent) and a corresponding rise in support for independents and minor parties to a record 14 per cent left the two-party-preferred result at 55-45.

Over the year, guest journalists made 133 appearances on the 44 Insiders programs. If we count presenter David Speers, that is 177 contributions. Of these, 92 were current or former employees of Murdoch’s News Corporation, the most untruthful and discredited “news” organisation in the English-speaking world.

That’s 52%. Another 32 journalists, or 18%, were from the pro-Coalition Nine Entertainment network.

There is no need for the public broadcaster to engage employees of organisations with proven records of falsifying data, suppressing vital information and blatant political manipulation. Australia has many journalists with excellent credentials Insiders could have used.

The release of the Senate report backing a call by Kevin Rudd for an inquiry into the Murdoch media empire could not have come on a more appropriate day. It was tabled in parliament hours before Lachlan and Sarah Murdoch hosted their annual Christmas bash in Sydney’s Bellevue Hill for politicians, media personalities and the business elite.

The Labor and Greens senators on the committee recommended a judicial inquiry with the powers of a royal commission into media diversity, ownership and regulation – although Labor’s media spokeswoman, Michelle Rowland, immediately ruled it out as ALP policy.

Committee chair Sarah Hanson-Young: “The evidence that the Murdoch media empire is indeed a dangerous monopoly was heard loud and clear.”

The rhetoric didn’t seem to bother the Liberal MP Dave Sharma or the NSW health minister, Brad Hazzard, who were guests at the soiree alongside Qantas boss Alan Joyce, Atlassian founder and billionaire Scott Farquhar, the former NRL and FFA boss David Gallop and racing and rugby league administrator Peter V’landys.

Everyone from Murdoch’s Australasian chief, Michael Miller, and Sky News Australia boss Paul Whittaker were invited, and presenters Peter Stefanovic, Chris Kenny, Paul Murray and Sharri Markson made the grade.

For the record, the report defines media concentration by saying Australia now has only three national-scale commercial media voices.

The biggest is News Corp, which controls about two-thirds of metropolitan daily newspaper circulation, Sky News and a free-to-air channel in regional areas.

Next is Nine Entertainment, which owns the Nine television network, and the former Fairfax mastheads the Sydney Morning Herald, the Age and the Australian Financial Review, as well as digital properties.

The third player is Kerry Stokes in Western Australia, who holds a controlling interest in Seven West Media Ltd, which controls the West Australian, Perth’s Sunday Times and the Community Newspaper Group, which owns 23 local newspapers across Perth, as well as the Seven TV network.

News Corp wrote down the value of its once high-flying The Sun title to zero, underscoring the dramatic decline in Britain’s newspaper industry.

Is that as good as saying it can't be, or at least there is no value, suing The Sun? It's always been regarded as a PR rag rather than a source of news. Countless conservative governments have used the Sun and it's like elsewhere as their propaganda machine rather than utilising creditable publications for that purpose. Anthropologist and archaeologist say Dark Emu was littered with weak evidence and unsourced claims

Two leading Australian academics have savaged the best-selling Indigenous history book Dark Emu for being riddled with mistakes and ignoring Aboriginal voices.

Private News exists to sell papers and what better way than to raise the issue about Dark Emu, Bruce Bascoe and the claim that white men have underestimated, under taught the history of Aboriginal Australia and it's wider complexity. It seems to me that Sutton and Pascoe fundamentally agree on the issue. However it seems to be being sold as the sledging of Pascoe and he being wrong. The ensuing publicity a beneficial quid pro quo for two academics the newspaper but is it one that improves our understanding of First nations peoples, Aborigines or Old Fathers?

What is more odd it's taken 7 years for Sutton to respond to Pascoe and even more curious some 4-5 years to even bother reading his book central to Sutton's subject of interest. It's almost as if he were commissioned to write it. There is a lot of energy put into disparaging Pasocoe's credentials and a repetition of old arguments that he got the historical facts wrong. Arguments we have heard over and over again by right-wing commentators from the get go. But it doesn't exactly destroy the basic argument of misunderstanding the complexity of Indigenous cultures does it?

Strange also is the fact that Sutton sides with the LNP on what should and shouldn't be taught in our schools. Sutton's strict academic and generally white history to date might be brushed on but the complexity raised by Pascoe be left well alone. That debate were there i really is none should according to Sutton be left alone be left alone. Sutton sounds almost like a flatearther warning that any new propositions are unfounded and can never be proved so drop the subject. He's weirdly an academic in line with the right-wing commentators and the LNP isn't he?

 Isn't it a coincidence that this has come to light just at a time when the LNP is desperately trying to dictate what needs to be taught to our children and that a book has been put together in some 18 months, 5 years after the authors even first paid paid attention to it. Something that questioned their metaphysical and cosmological explanations of the Old Father's  world and grounded them with a different investigative approach. To say Dark Emu is littered with weak evidence and outsourced claims seems just the same old same old we've heard before bu fundamentally one that doesn't destroy the fact that we don't see it as an inclusive part of Australian History which today remains and oversimplified white myth. As for the two "leading" academics well we only have that descriptive of them from Ch9. Wait for the reviews to follow.

ACADEMICS SAVAGE BRUCE PASCOE: ‘DISTORTS AND EXAGGERATES’

To me, white "Aboriginal historian" Bruce Pascoe is the biggest fraud in Australian literary history.  Now the Sydney Morning Herald admits two top academics prove his book Dark Emu, claiming Aborigines were actually farmers in towns, actually  "distorts and exaggerates" and is   “riddled with errors of fact". Will the ABC finally say sorry?

So this is what it takes to bring the self obsessed  Andrew Bolt out of hibernation. Bolt promotes himself as " Australia's most-read political blog" a falsehood that's proven by his lack of writing or posting anything week in and week out. His boast is as much bullshit as him saying he was "educated at Adelaide Uni". In short Bolt's a liar and the ABC has nothing to apologise for.

As for the two "academics" savaging Bruce Pascoe neither are historians. They say little more than what's been said before by the likes of Bolt. That 1) Pascoe is unqualified to comment on Australian history because he isn't an "academic" 2) the points listed and referred to aren't new they are the same as what others like Bolt and "replacement theorists" have said previously. 3) However they agree that the history told to date has fallen short and is far more complex than has been told to date. That in fact they seems to agree with Pascoe rather than dispute him on that central point.

As for the "academics savaging Pascoe" well one wonders why if they work in the same field of study as Pascoe which they don't why it's taken 7 years for them to respond in a manner that Bolt considers a peer-review when it's not. Sutton's an Anthropologist and linguist who for 50 year's focus has been on the metaphysics and cosmology of indigenous culture rather than Indigenous history. Their fields of expertise Sutton's is regarded as more of philosophical area of interest rather than historical. While Keryn Walshe an archeologist, also not a historian, focuses on Pascoe's methodology. Yet like Climate Change Bolt grabs any scientist not a climatologist and holds them up as experts. Anyone with a Phd after their names from any discipline is regarded as a source to prove that he's right.

What is suspect is that the SMH's priority is to sell news papers while Sutton's and Walshe's is to sell a book. There is a solid argument that quid pro quo relationship exists between the two and Bruce Pascoe the easy vehicle fit for that purpose. Was the book commissioned for the purpose of "sales" because it's hardly an academic work that shines any new light on what's gone before it. Rather it's just another political polemic fit for purpose other than any new information.

 It has Pascoe and Sutton actually agreeing that indigenous history and culture is far more complex than we have previously and historically admitted to. However given that, Sutton and Walshe according the SMH anyway. leans on the side of white man's history the myth only to be taught to our children in schools. That glorious settler myth promoted as history without any of it's inglorious truths told but known to aboriginal peoples but not listened to because it replaces our history as ideology told and taught. It's odd that it took Sutton 5 years to getting around to reading Pascoe and only now 18 months later to put not a new pen to paper but just his name. 

No surprise Bolt's there to chant "I told you so". Politics is a small numbers game and Newscorp's purpose has always been to influence small numbers that 1-4% of voters that determine the outcome of which people should vote. Bolt doesn't really search for truth he prefers to cast doubt apply emotional fear as tactics to do that. In this case it's simply to maintain he's right and the ABC is wrong in their approach to news and information. It will be interesting to see how Sutton's and Walshe's book is received when really reviewed.

‘Winds of change howling through corridors of power’: PM challenged to act

Labor has challenged Prime Minister Scott Morrison to act more swiftly on public anger about the treatment of women after thousands rallied across the country.

“Not far from here, such marches, even now, are being met with bullets, but not here in this country. Not here in this country. This is a triumph of democracy when we see these things take place,” he said.

Mr Albanese said Mr Morrison had “not so much a tin ear as a wall of concrete” in failing to act on calls for change, noting the government was yet to respond to all the findings of the Respect@Work report on workplace sexual harassment, which was handed down one year ago.

If actions speak louder than words Morrison's have been less than a whisper. The Dummer  Dumb coalition are running this country and in case of March 4 Justice are merely stating the obvious as a distraction. "We aren't yet Myanmar". However in that there is an implied threat coupled with a self congratulatory slap on the back that if it weren't for Scotty bullets bullets might reign. Yes, a rather undeserved self-congratulatory remark. Protests in a Democracy serve a functional, means in a working Democratic system of telling the government of the day they are dysfunctional and doing a shit of a job. That's something Morrison can no longer really deny.

Is Morrison really trying to be Trump? When Trump said he was the law and order President it was an implied threat. Remember he also said 350,000 Covid-19 deaths were a good outcome given 2 million would have died if it weren't for him. Morrison has said and done much the same praising the demonstration with his irrational response "We aren't Myanmar yet". What we have is almost an implied threat "we aren't yet seeing bullets fired". Claiming the protest had nothing yet something to do with him is yes, Dummer. But claiming to be too busy doing real work was misogyny amplified. 

So what we have is a PM and a leadership's total failure to communicate. M&Ms lead us and Morrison has identified himself as being Dummer than Dumb of the two.

 ABC managing director David Anderson has launched a strong defence of the independence of the public broadcaster from government intervention, amid a deepening rift with the federal government over its political coverage.

 “Essential to the perception of the ABC’s independence and impartiality is the reality that we are independent and detached from government direction,” Mr Anderson said in the speech.

It's become patently obvious that this government wants to rid us of the ABC and is attempting to use Christian Porter in a quid quo pro arrangement to silence the ABC before the next election while allowing Murdoch media to run Porter's media defense and the LNP political election campaign at the same time. Yet again what we will see politics dominating policy news and information for power in exchange for filthy lucre.

The public are ‘willing’ their governments and leaders to succeed

Former Victorian Liberal Party President Michael Kroger says every opposition leader "has struggled" over the past 12 months because the public "are willing" the premiers and the prime minister to succeed. "There's no point any voter hoping their state government fails," Mr Kroger told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. "They're all willing the state governments to succeed". "They're willing them to succeed and that's why they're doing well in the polls".  

In a strident attempt to prove his misogyny it would appear Bolt preferred to ignore the March 4 Justice that was broadcast worldwide today. He found time to try to excuse the Liberal's trashing in WA and their falling behind all down to Covid.Yet the March 4 Justice wasn't anything to do with the pandemic. It was all to do with the Liberal's failure to do anything.

It proved the public were "demanding the dysfunctional LNP to be willing"  to succeed. It's 52% to 48% drop in the polls and thousands upon thousands of women of both political persuasions turning up in protest were there to let the Morrison coalition know they are do-nothing fuckwits.

Harry and Meghan weren't ever in this for "ratings". Bolt and O'Neill are. Meghan and Harry were in it for "truth". Harry if anything was in it for his long service and superannuation package which he's certainly due for his length of service. It goes to show corporate wage theft is being defended by Bolt and O'Neill. However not if it happened to them they'd both be turning to the media for assistance. SMH now CH9 article's headline intentionally misinterprets the findings of a review into the ABC by highlighting a criticism of a single show on a single night and of the opinions of it's guests and not any ABC staff. Leaving the reading public with the impression the opinions of the LNP government were correct. However that wasn't the case as Blackburn emphasised. (ODT)

Blackburn, who has conducted six other reviews for the ABC since 2008, said the broadcaster had "met the impartiality standard" despite the criticisms levelled in her report.

"The conclusion reached, having considered all the evidence, is that ABC content for the most
part followed the weight of evidence and was duly impartial," the report said.

It also cautioned against extrapolating the negative findings for one edition of one program across the ABC's broader 2019 election coverage, or even to other editions of the same or similar programs.

"While the ABC has chosen to produce the report in this instance, we do so while maintaining our strong objection against its production on public interest grounds," Ms Buttrose said.

A spokesman for the ABC said the criticisms levelled in the review largely related to the composition of the panel programs in relation to the non-ABC guests.

"The review did not identify any impartiality issue with the conduct of presenters on The Drum or identify any issues of bias in their interviews," the spokesman said in a statement.

 

"The review confirmed that ABC News demonstrably seeks and overwhelmingly achieves impartiality."

 The LNP seems to regard science as a left wing activity simply because it's scepticism evidenc based reasoning and logic might force conservatives to be progressive. rather than just deniers of subjects that demand we might need to change.

Despite the odd critical piece of reporting, there is no evidence that the ABC of 2020 is a nest of left-wing, anti-business bias — the government is shooting at ghosts.
