THE PROMISES BILL SHORTEN COULD REGRET

We've already seen political leaders win elections with wild promises that then torture them once they take power. Remember "there will be no carbon tax under the government I lead"? Here are four promises that could hurt Bill Shorten if he becomes Prime Minister. My editorial from The Bolt Report.

No, all promises aren't the same.

Andrew Bolt wants to have us think that the ALP these past years is the same as the Liberal Party.
Let's not forget "no cuts"Abbott, before and after his election, because Andrew Bolt certainly has. No Bill Shorten has a very significantly different model or yardstick by which he's delivering promises. 5 standout promises broken by Abbott were also by the slowest government to pass bills since John Gorton. I believe Abbott was 3 short of cruising past Gorton's record.
Bolt's not addressing reality and only inviting us to his illogical fantasy. Firstly asylum seekers aren't  "illegal immigrants" and are protected under international law. They are entitled to be heard and processed so who is Bolt talking about? Bolt's currently calling doctors "activists" because they are compelled to abide by their Hypocratic oath. What grounds does he have to believe they are treasonous he really gives none. Yet Bolt trusts his own doctor because of that oath doesn't he, not because they share the same politics.  Or does he visit some other kind of doctor?
Negative gearing economists experts dispute Bolt's imaginary threat because only 1 in 10 properties it turns out are negatively geared to make a deductible loss to reduce income. Bolt ignores the economics involved, the advice of experts, to make out the price of housing is a house of cards dependant on it. His argument it might, it could, like the price of tulips in the 16th-century collapse as he flies this kite as high as he can.
Bolt ignores Indigenous requests, not for another "Parliament" but a body of representatives chosen by the First Nations Peoples to advise the government rather than a person like Mundine or an envoy like Abbott appointed by the government which for the past 200 years has failed to work and more so failed to recognize their status as First Nation peoples. That's not "another" Parliament just as Andrew Bolt isn't Indigenous as he likes to claim he is.
Climate Change, not a word from Bolt on the notion of "transition" or the global picture that world is already in transition as we speak. You won't hear that from Bolt. It's happening now in 150 countries and the multinational corporations, the finance and banking sectors are all transitioning divesting away from fossil fuels. Even though Trump is trying to close down renewable technologies and climate science calling it a Chinese hoax American states are going it alone and exceeding expectations California for one is now running on 19% renewables while Bolt will tell you the opposite. CO2 the highest it's ever been recorded is not pollution according to Bolt and Abbott even says it's good. Not a single piece of evidence is offered from any experts what is presented instead is only imagine imagine imagine. However, isn't a responsible government meant to take in all the information and evidence experts have to offer before it makes decisions not just based on ideology alone or a seeming point of difference but in the best interests of us all and the "common good"? No cuts Abbott's pre-election promises became instant lies that benefited nobody except the interests of the IPA and the LNP donors rather than all Australians. These were financial decisions about institutions that exist and not the nope nope nope of Abbott leading as if he were in opposition playing politics rather than serving the nation.
What we have in Bolt's editorial is a case of media hyperbole. The fact is Abbott promised not to cut funding to existing institutional systems. Rudd and Gillard were arguing for the reality of Climate Change when  Abbott was calling it crap and Bolt was telling us the planet was cooling and News Corp was backing them. Bolt no longer tries the cooling bullshit on anymore but says a small degree of change makes no difference. However, Climate change is about small degrees of change and they do make an enormous difference over a century plus. Besides renewables make sense for the whole planet and those who will come after us.

 But as the 48th Labor Party national conference has shown, whatever deficits Mr Shorten may be accused of having as the alternative prime minister, they are more than compensated by the professionalism and discipline of the Labor machine around him.
Mr Shorten's personal ruthlessness and his proved capacity for consensus-building has been reflected in the management of the conference floor — helped, it must be said, by the sobering proximity of the federal election.

I suspect Australians are getting a bit sick of pushy protesters - sanctimonious, noisy, in your face. This past week has been a perfect example of a protest culture that's got right out of hand. The protesters who spoiled it for the sick kids are the last straw. My editorial on The Bolt Report.

Andrew Bolt doesn't seem to think animals have a problem circuses were great, they entertained kids too and the animals well, they loved it as well. 

We need to wait for a vote and have discussions as to who should speak up and anthropomorphise for these creatures. Bolt doesn't cut it with his stupid seal voice. We have had 5 years of discussion about the kids on Nauru so we need another 5 for discussions on captive seals and reindeer. 

He doesn't have a problem but then who does Bolt actually represent, sick kids or captive animals? It's not the kids on Nauru no, nor the magpies he feeds against the advice of Australia's fauna experts, is it? Both give him pleasure. That's not his problem the protesters are. Bolt using his mega-resources to shut out minorities who are rarely if ever invited to his "discussions and debates". We've seen it before when that lockout has been taken to extremes throughout History and its been pretty ugly for the demonstrators. We've seen it happen to asylum seekers when in despair have been let drown to make a point. Those that didn't were locked away and called "illegals" and witnesses to these events if they spoke up were threatened with 2+ years jail. Now that's civilised debate and discussion Bolt style. Another day, another distraction, another distortion by Bolt. Australia is sick of protesters but not those groups of individuals demonstrating because it's the only way they can get their message across. Eureka set a precedent in our history, it too was quashed but never forgotten as much as people like Bolt would have it scrubbed from our history books. Like Aboriginal culture, these are things the thought police want to be forgotten. Bolt's concern "sick kids" my ass, if he was those on Nauru would be in Australia now because News Corp has the voice to make it happen.
The demonstrators are Australians sick of those that have done a disservice to this country for their self-interest rather than the "common good". They don't demonstrate openly but in the shadows, the extremist right-wing faction of the Liberal Party and still lead by the Gollum Tony Abbott who has cost the nation 5 years of regression protesting any attempt at progressive compromise in the service of us all, Australians. The Abbotteers, in fact, have resulted in doubling the government debt in that short period without doing what they were voted and paid to do, govern.
Bolt claims it's "sanctimonious noisy in your face protesters" that is the trouble. Last week it was those grubby little primary school kids marching in the streets of our cities that according to him were just brats who didn't know what they were doing. Women victimising men, Safe schoolers victimising Christianity and all our Institutions sucking the cultural lifeblood out of our white western, male, heterosexual, western culture that gave birth to Australia. Multiculturalism has depleted Australia of its vital energy.
 Bolt's a caricature, a comic character as real as Jack Ripper in Dr Strangelove and he's always wrong. Wrong about Tony Abbott dozens of times. Wrong about the third most important person in the Catholic hierarchy. Wrong about what it means to be Australian. Just fundamentally wrong and he makes it clear he hates the place.
