G7 'close to agreeing' help for Amazon fires
President Emmanuel Macron suggests G7 leaders are close to agreeing a plan to help the rainforest
According to Andrew Bolt, trying on a PAYWALL to subscribe to the Herald Sun "almost everything you read about the fires is false. It seems the G7 doesn't think so, but Bolt knows better(ODT)
MORE FAKE NEWS: AMAZON FIRES 'UNPRECEDENTED'
Sure enough, the media hits Brazil's Right-wing president with fake news like it did Trump: "As global outrage grows over wildfires consuming large tracts of the Amazon, it’s worth taking a look at Brazil’s leader, Jair Bolsonaro. Brazil’s president is proudly filled with contempt for the Amazon." Yet almost everything said about the fires is false.
ALI G WAS A JOKE. NOW IT'S DEADLY SERIOUS
COLUMN Comedian Sacha Baron Cohen once played a blinged-up hood called Ali G who’d bleat at every rebuff: “Is it cos I is black?” But what was a joke is now sickly serious. Everyone plays this Ali G race card, from friends defending Meghan Markle to commentators on CNN defending anti-Israel bigots, and now vice-chancellors defending their Chinese gold.
Corporate Australia hasn't been "spooked" they listened. They heard what Jones said and made a decision like any other Australian is entitled to. Bolt sounds like Trump on Twitter that his "ratings" show America approves of him when 66% when polled actually disapprove of him. Ratings might show Jones is entertaining but not that he's right. Goggle Box has high ratings. Jackass once had high ratings. So then are they yardstick of what's right?
Channel 9 don't give a rat's about Alan Jones ratings at Macquarie's 2GB. They currently have a 55% controlling interest and want full control. Jones might have high ratings in radio, but Ch9 is much much bigger, and quality is it seems of more concern. They don't want their other interests tainted by Jone's reputation. Fairfax's Age is currently the front runner in Victoria as is SMH in NSW all outsell News Corp who are a better fit for the shock jock. Ch9 has an image significantly different to Sky and certainly doesn't want the same image as Jones delivers on Macquarie. Is Bolt really freaked by the fact that Jones might have a bigger presence than him if he changed ships?
Corporates aren't in cahoots with shadowy activists they are miles apart. There is no Bolt conspiracy, just a different business model. One that has less of a place or needs for Jones whose 78. Ch 9 doesn't see him as useful for their other differing interests.
It could be argued that Bolt doesn't really want Jones to have a bigger profile on Sky or at News Corp as he just might be overshadowed.
When Alan Jones met with Nine Entertainment Co CEO Hugh Marks, it wasn't in the most comfortable of circumstances for the radio veteran. Nine controls 55 per cent of Macquarie Media, which is the owner of 2GB in Sydney, 3AW in Melbourne and other stations around the country.
But for Macquarie, the biggest challenge of the year is still to come. Singleton, and fellow shareholder Mark Carnegie, are set to vote on Nine's $115 million takeover offer next month.
Jones seems safe for now. But there are growing doubts his contract will be extended again at a business that is fully-controlled by Nine.
Just how thin has the ice become under Alan Jones?
NewsMediaWorks’ Enhanced Media Metrics Australia data for June 2019 shows The Age had 4.17 million readers.
The results come days after Nine posted its first full-year financial results since its historic merger with Fairfax Media, revealing the digital and publishing assets had grown earnings (before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) by 56 per cent.
The Metro Media publishing division, which includes The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, achieved a more than 60 per cent increase in earnings over the period and double-digit subscription growth across the major titles. The Age ends financial year as Victoria's most-read news title
WHAT'S THE ABC'S EXCUSE FOR STILL PUSHING THIS DROWNING-ISLANDS FALSEHOOD?
For nearly a decade I've tried to correct a falsehood the ABC keeps repeating: that global warming is drowning Pacific Islands. The science is easily checked, but many ABC presenters keep ignoring it. Far more islands are growing. Chris Mitchell: "The ABC’s own fact check unit confirmed this in a ruling last year." So what's the ABC's excuse?
