Another source of disruptive change is the realisation that certain activities are bad for our health (smoking, for instance) or for the natural environment (excessive irrigation and land clearing, burning fossil fuels) and must be curtailed.
Adversely affected interest groups will always tempt governments to try to resist such change – at the ultimate expense of the rest of us. The right answer usually is for change to go ahead, but for governments to help the adversely affected adjust. Just what we haven’t been doing.

There were Andrew Bolts at the beginnings of Industrialisation too and they were as anti-progressive as Bolt is today. Had they been listened to we'd still all be Amish driving about in horse and carts but not on our own land. However, science was listened to back then as were the cost benefits and they were taken into account and the transition from Feudalist to Capitalist organisation went ahead with bosses and workers in agreement in most cases.

Transition is the word missing in Bolt's alarmism his is the push back to any notion of transition or progress and the denial of costs that will occur if climate change action doesn't go ahead. his cost analysis pays no account to anyone not on Australian company boards. His adaption adjustment and resilience isn't for a common good.

Unlike the Germans whose boards and committees are inclusive of both workers and owners 50/50 and gender 40/60 Australian boards are totally at war with their workers and intent on diluting anything that gives them any input. Transition in Germany has public support and has been relatively painless as it has in Scotland and Scandanavian countries including Bolt's beloved Socialist Netherlands. So yes its no wonder the Germans do see a pixie in every garden and all Germany can see a day when everyone will gorge on chocolate cake.

What makes Bolt such a sceptic when there already are world economies effectively and efficiently delivering growth and moving towards net-zero emissions. Bolt prefers to mock reality rather than be a Real News Man. What a bummer he and the Murdochian's are. Maybe because Rupert is heavily invested in and on the board of Genie Oil illegally mining in Israeli occupied Syria. (ODT)
