An incompetent and careless government is a threat to us all - » The Australian Independent Media Network
This government’s preparedness and response to emergency situations fails every test.
I highlighted this in my recent article; ‘We were once prepared for this‘ in which I wrote:
In the dying days of the Howard government they were very mindful of a couple of viruses, H5N1 (avian influenza), or bird flu as it was better known as, and H1N1, which was known as swine flu, that in a worse-case scenario could bring the world to its knees. That is, a global pandemic. Which includes us.
We had to be prepared for it…
Battle plans for such an event hit the drawing-board in 2007; an initiative of the Howard government – readying the country for the worst – and some time later the program was given life again by the Rudd government, with a significant increase in funding.
You may wish to read the whole article. It is not crucial that you do, but I encourage you as it provides a glimpse into the Coalition’s indifference to the threat of a pandemic.
400,000 left jobless by coronavirus will miss out on Centrelink without crucial fix
Scott
Morrison will move within days to plug a hole in the welfare system
that would have seen up to 400,000 laid off during the coronavirus
crisis miss out on Centrelink.
The new demand heard from News Corp is send them back to work Taiwan did doesn't matter if we don't have the testing equipment or are geographically far bigger and more complicated than Taiwan. Bolt believes in one fix will save all.
Cases worldwide approach 650,000, as Italy's death toll passes 10,000
Spain
has deployed its armed forces to help transport the bodies of those
killed, as the number of deaths from COVID-19 rose to just under 5,700.
What Sth Korea and Taiwan could do we can't and never could we weren't prepared and it was no accident (ODT)
“There’s a concept of economy and efficiency. You should have just enough beds for what you need tomorrow. You shouldn’t prepare for the future. Right? So the hospital system’s crashing. Simple things like tests which you can easily get in a country South Korea (Taiwan), you can’t get here.Morrison abandons democracy; installs junta to cope with COVID-19 - » The Australian Independent Media Network
So the coronavirus, which should be controlled in a functioning society, is going out of hand here. We’re just not ready for it. What we’re good at, what our leaders are good at, and have been very good at for the last 40 years, is pouring money into the pockets of the rich and the corporate executives while everything else crashes.” (Noam Chomsky on a US health system which has parallels with Australia’s).
FAKE NEWS-
Andrew Bolt calls for nature's death panel to take its course but protect the Economy at all cost. His approach to this Global Problem accepts that nature as he knows it has been rigged & only applies to "his Australia". Accepting that death will seeks out the most vulnerable in a user-pays economy. Those who Bolt never really gave a shit about in the first place his Australian "deplorables" as they aren't and never were really "his Australians" (ODT)
CORONAVIRUS: POLITICIANS ARE BURNING OUR COUNTRY IN ORDER TO SAVE IT
Politicians are destroying thousands of businesses and hundreds of thousands of jobs to stop a virus that has so far killed just 14 people and is less deadly than first thought. It must change tack fast before it leaves our economy a smoking ruin. This virus is dangerous, but there is a better way to fight it. My editorial from The Bolt Report.
Reframing his argument on climate change and the "better way to fight it" is simply overlaying his old argument on to the conservatives one approach to everything protect the Economy at all cost as it's the best we can possibly have. Both the Pandemic and Climate Change show the global nature of the problem and the need for global unity to address it, not the reverse as Bolt is now suggesting. Apparently, with only 14 dead we don't need to be concerned for the planet bu but only ourselves. Remember Bolt and the Ebola scare "shut the door" it's an African problem we heard the brave man cry.
The cost of trying to save everyone is unknown the collateral damage incremental and won't affect the economy. The problem with Covid-19 unless we are sufficiently prepared we will be left in the position of choosing who and who not to treat forcing doctors to choose who dies. Maybe Bolt could be the chair that committee, Australia's first Death panel. He could have people ring in and vote online who won't get that ventilator. His show could be renamed The Bolt Snuff Report.
WE'RE NOT DYING (YET) LIKE THESE SCAREMONGERS SAID
VIRUS EXAGGERATED? So far Australia's death toll from the coronavirus is just 13. It will rise, but is much less than we were led to expect. Was the danger - real enough - wildly exaggerated? Here are the most alarmist predictions that helped to panic our governments into burning down the country in order to "save" it.
WE'RE SLOWLY GETTING ON TOP OF THE VIRUS. NOW TO SAVE PEOPLE'S JOBS
More encouraging news. The rise in new cases of coronavirus in Australia - 406 since 3pm yesterday - is still too high, but the rate of increase is the lowest in weeks: 12.8 per cent. One more death, of a 91-year-old woman, brings our toll to 14. But the death rate among those infected here is about the lowest in the world: under 0.4 per cent.
