He doesn't know, the imbecile, that from his political non-participation comes the prostitute, the abandoned child, the robber and, worst of all, corrupt officials, the lackeys of exploitative multinational corporations." ~BERTOLT BRECHT'

Alan Kohler: China fits the domestic political need for an enemy

"Needless to say, war with our biggest customer would not be ideal; Paul Keating’s words at his own recent Press Club appearance, that we must find our security IN Asia, not FROM Asia, would haunt us.
Earlier this month the Pentagon published a report entitled Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China: A Report to Congress, which convincingly downplayed the prospect of China invading Taiwan.
It said, among other things: more

He said China’s military was no match for Australia’s eight new submarines which hadn’t been designed yet. “China should think very carefully before doing anything rash. Based on the conversations we’ve had about this new arsenal – it looks very, very powerful. On paper”.

The US is to hold a "summit for democracy". It seems to think democracy is like Coca Cola, with the same taste for all. Is there anything more absurd than this? There are all kinds of democracies, yet the US thinks it has the say on what is and isn't.

Australia is rushing to change it Democracy before the Summit to mirror America's. Getting rid of the ABC, changing it's Voter ID laws and a bit trickier ditching compulsory voting if it only could.  Turkey, Hungary and Russia are coming but the Scandanavian nations lucked out and haven't been invited.

Thanks to Scotty from Marketing Sally helped popularise Strollout as Macquarie's the word of the Year

The new word rollout has been a lot faster than the vaccine strollout, according to the committee that chose the Macquarie Dictionary’s word of 2021.
