 Red Alert Index

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute's latest estimates put Chinese military expenditures at $293 billion in 2021, compared with the U.S.'s $801 billion. Those figures peg China's military spending at about 1.7% of GDP, compared with 3.5% by the U.S., according to the institute.

Note how Murdoch media choose 2019 as the base to measure from not 2021 which indicates no increase in China's defense spending. In the mean time Australia's and American spending has leapfrogged and boosted the businesses of all arms manufacturers

BEIJING—China plans to boost its military spending by 7.2% this year, the government said Sunday, accelerating its military buildup as tensions rise with the U.S. and its allies over Taiwan.

Total military expenditures this year will reach the equivalent of about $224 billion, according to a draft budget report issued at the opening of the annual gathering of China’s National People’s Congress. That growth rate would be the fastest since 2019 and exceeds Beijing’s target for gross domestic product growth this year. Murdoch's WSJ

The Age is following the Murdoch "business model" of Corporate Capitalism creating demand and ratings for itself in order to attract and hopefully atttract wealth and favor from the market where the mega-millions lie and that's not with subscribers who provide evidence of numbers only that those with public "fear" rely on.

"The Red Alert" is a forum constructed by Peter Costello's Ch 9 whose business model has adopted the tactics of News Corp and Sky News for its survival. The message is purely Anglo-Western and one not as dramatic as that found in the Pacific or Asian regions. If you want an opinion of "war" create and ask those whose jobs depend on it to form a round table to discuss it but don't invite those who are experts on peace and diplomacy. It's this same beating of the drum that took us to Vietnam, Afghanistan and Syria

Since the days of the LNP's Abbott government China has been the great political "threat". The Wolf at our door whose creation has been assisted by the media and totally suited to the politics of fear the LNP has always practiced. Who remembers the the Fulan-Gong today, the Uyghurs, in light of our LNP's inhumane detention centers and the conditions of our first nation peoples in remote areas until recently regarded by the likes of Andrew Bolt et al as the most dysfunctional culture on the planet.

The Age of Shame on our front page today undermining the current ALP Government's message that relationship wit China has improved

KremlinTV Targets American Transgender Journalist Now Fighting For Ukraine

These are words you’d expect to hear in Israel today but no they are from Putin’s Russia against  transgender

“In March, this creature arrive in Ukraine and in mid-October was officially enlisted into the ranks of the AFU,” sneered host Olga Skabeeva.

German media called Sarah Ashton-Cirillo “Putin’s number one enemy” in Ukraine, an American transgender journalist who gave up her camera and since October has been fighting for Ukraine. A recent near-death experience on the frontline in Bakhmut and the continuing divisions in American society put her on KremlinTV once again this week.

 Jim Chalmers' super gamble

"This week Anthony Albanese trod where many thought he would never dare: he raised taxes on excessive savings held in superannuation. While he did it in a way that can wedge his political opponents in the run-up to the next election, he also handed them a big stick with which to beat him in the meantime.
The howls of betrayal of trust, broken promises and class warfare were every bit as loud and hysterical from sections of the media and the Coalition as we’ve come to expect.…

Michael Pascoe: More rubbish about taxing super than you’ll find at the tip.
Don’t worry, the earnings on really serious money won’t be taxed at 30 per cent in…

Person bought a house for $4.5 million, gained permission (beyond most locals’ expectations) to cut down some trees and thereby create a second block on the site. (New owner had played this game before and knew a bit.)
Owner is selling the original house for $4 million (after occupying it for more than a year) while building on the second block, spending maybe $4 million on the build (it’s that sort of house and suburb).
When finished, the properties will sell for about $11.5 million, maybe more – and a tax-free profit of about $3 million. Not bad, eh?
This sort of house-flipping is what the owner does. The tax system encourages it.
Of course, to make this sort of money, you have to have the sort of money that allows you a seat at the table.
But, hey, the capital-gains-tax-free family home is an article of political faith.
Ah, “middle Australia”.
