Bolt's interview was simply a repetition and summary of the answers he gave the Commission. Bolt allowed George Pell to use the Sgt Schultz defense to the question of pedophilia  in the Catholic Church "I knew nothing". Bolts questions were as challenging as being hit by marshmallows and it seemed that Pell had no trouble answering them because he knew what was coming. As if he'd been prepped but unnecessary as it followed a repetitive script. 

We thought the Bolt Report  was repetitious unchallenging and boring. Bolt only had to travel to Burwood and dress like a dummy out of Peter Jacksons window. But this interview was even less than convincing. The theatrics of  going to Rome was nothing more than a marketing ploy and Bolt didn't even look convincing. He's certainly not a reporter. He needs structure to appear to perform. Score 1-10 * and that's just for the pre-production hype that went on beforehand otherwise it was  a nonevent a hollow vessel as hollow as an Easter egg. So Bolt assumes Pell bears some guilt given his headline  in the Herald Sun

Why then did Pell also insist that their was no institutional or systemic problem with the Catholic Church. You can't have it both ways and Bolt just conveniently ignores this. The churches back was to the wall and a fixer was needed and Pell did the dutiful. He wasn't an innocent he had prior knowledge and he came in and tried to fix it and save the church's reputation at the same time. He was no saint but the churches Sgt at arms in Australia. There were many more guilty is a strange term used by Bolt who is a moral absolutist.

Greenhorns aren't appointed CEO the fact that Pell became Archbishop and acted simply goes to show the church knew it was between a rock and a hard place and Pell was simply called in to fix it. His predecessor no longer had the confidence of the public or the church to do so. To say Pell was oblivious to what was needed before his appointment beggars belief of an organization such as the Catholic Church.

It appears the spin doctor is interviewing his client. However it appears Bolt needed to backflip on his first response to Pell's questioning by the Commission counsels.  Had he not no interview would have been given. So the mea culpa mea culpa by Bolt. Then it's 12 hours later than advertised  why? Because it just might needed to have been rehearsed. Has Pell's team been given the questions before hand of course a typical News Corp PR job.  Wasn't Pell meant to be a frail sick old man with a heart condition? He seems to have the stamina of a man half his age.
The question that sticks in the forefront of the mind is why Bolt has held back for a week? Maybe he hasn't and this was how it was intended to go down a week ago, the rehearsed absolution of Pell by the Church of News Corp to be shown globally. Both Bolt and Pell now require this  belated interview in an attempt to save each other because the pre-production seems to have been ify. You need to remember nothing on TV or in politics goes down unrehearsed and pre-planned otherwise bloopers happen as they always did to Tony Abbott. So the 12 hour delay.

Braggart Bolt the Jimmy Olsen of News Corp still dipping into what he first wrote about himself 40 years ago. Kismet, Serendipity and Rupert Murdoch gave birth to Bolt when Murdoch decided to mix opinion with news and adopt a political position. Bolt disliked reporting because it was too tedious. He preferred loose and lazy bullshit and Murdoch turned away from Keating to Howard and Bolt was born. However a legal department was also needed.

 

Straight from The Australian 2 days ago. Thursday passed so it seems did the exclusive live interview. Was it in Italian and not broadcast here or was The Australian just promoting Bolt's trip? Was it part of Bolt's column yesterday where Andrew Bolt told us how he stood head and shoulders above all others in the media. No that interview seems to have gone MIA. But then is it any surprise?

It's Friday morning if you go to Sky News all you get is Bolt on the street  which could have been shot in Carlton. What's Bolt talking about himself of course. What is for certain the Article of Paul Sheehans that Bolt referenced and silently removed is being investigated by the Press Council.  His trip to Rome was it a case of misrepresentation or simply theft from News Corp. What value was he a non Catholic to News Corp in Rome? It's as if he's dipped into the company's petty cash tin and and bought a ticket for himself  for his own pleasure.
 One might well ask if this man loved by his kids and dog acted responsibly as an employee of News Corp.  It's the same question asked of Pell.
Was Andrew Bolt an irresponsible columnist  acting under false pretenses as of  having value to the company or did the company ask him under the misbelief he was of some value to them as a columnist? Or did Andrew Bolt simply do it  for himself for the opportunity to indulge himself in Rome. What did he actually do there that he couldn't have done from Melbourne even appearing on Sky News


Did Bolt really need to be in Rome to flip flop about George Pell?
His column reads like a school boy diary. It's all about himself it's not about Pell it's about how he stands hands and shoulders above Maher, Manne and the rest of journalists. He went to Rome and the Vatican to canonize himself something he does on a regular basis when in Melbourne. He seems to believe that Pell was deceived by everybody  and it's a quality necessary to become a Bishop, Archbishop and then Cardinal. That this degree of naievity is a requirement for anybody to become the head of an organization the size of the Catholic Church. Bolt is so pleased with himself to be alone in this belief he just thinks he's exceptional and being in Rome was necessary in order to tell us.
As I said this has nothing to do with journalism it's nearer to St Andrew riding to the Vatican falling off his horse only to be blessed once again by god and the aura of George. Meanwhile the real journalists are reporting on what's going on and providing us with information. Maher and Manne didn't find it necessary to attend. However Andrew's mum will like his essay and give it an elephant stamp no doubt. He certainly wasn't seen interviewing anybody or even seen in the crowds of media sharing and caring with the victims.
