EU has a population of 500, million 1% which even Australians find a mean barely adequate to be called humanitarian aid would mean the EU if it matched our current program would accommodate 5 million. However in 2014 there were approx 750,000 applications for asylum less than 25% of that possible intake. Yet for Bolt the sky is caving in.
Germany if it took 1%it could accommodate 800,000. It has offered to take all the Syrian refugees 250,000. In 2014 Germany had 25% of it's possible intake.If it takes the Syrians it's expected to grow to 70% still below our offer and nowhere near the 10% immigration figures we show.
Yes there's crowding at the borders and the officials were unprepared. However German rural towns are shrinking and like Sheparton and Bendigo are happy to take these refugees. It's what Bolt doesn't want you to hear. Even Iceland with it's population of only 330,000 found 10,000 of its population volunteering to house refugee families themselves. Bolt generalising about Chafta says
"That access to the world’s biggest market will create Australian jobs for decades."
So Bolt tells us there's to be an explosion of jobs in farming, manufacturing and health. Our labour is free to shift to China as China's is free to shift here. On which planet does that make sense? Our unemployed car workers can go to China can they and transport their skills? Maybe our nurses feel free to go.
In what world does Bolt believe the manufacturing sector will explode with activity here because we have signed the Free Trade Agreement? Will we suddenly be making shoes for China? The Chinese can build a 44 story sky scraper in 3 weeks do they need Australians on site? How many more station hands will be needed in our cattle industry if our herds increase? Dairy and beef are no longer small businesses requiring manual labour.
There is truth in Bolt's lie though. The FTA was a initially a labour project in progress and close finalization with some qualifications needed. Abbott rushed in ditched those just to take the glory of a signature. He did it for the obvious, political reasons far and above fundamental commercial ones like labour controls.

What's not being argued is that wealth for the rich is no guarantee of more work. The trickle down effect does not work.
This is an old argument and Abbott wants to run with it because on the surface and agreement with China seems good until you read the fine print. He's been fundamentally fighting workers since he left school and knows the territory well. It's a fight he's used to. The Hawkes, Fergusons, and other labourites that don't want to fight this battle are denying it for what it is seemingly good. So they believe it's best to deal with the aftermath much later.
What's annoying is even staunch Marxists would be happy to see it pass because globalisation of labour is in their interest it will simply accelerate the demise of capitalism in the wealthier sovereign states and as a consequence unify the international labour movement needed to face the now mega transnational corporations running governments like ours.Theirs is wanting to accelerate the bigger picture.

Bolt seems to pull his quotes from wherever, whenever and whatever context that suit. Mark Dreyfus QC could run the rings off Andrew Bolt when it comes to the law. So could our current AG George Brandis. The trouble with Brandis it would take a month of Sundays and in a style so cryptic you wouldn't realize it was happening. Bias Heydon's family connections are Liberal through and through. They alone should convince anybody he shouldn't have been selected for the post. Let alone hi incompetence and inability to keep up with the technology in a modern court room. To challenge the comfortable is far from smearing it's duty as is comforting the challenged. Bolt does nothing as far as the Liberals are concern other than pamper their cause.
