Fighting Fake News with REAL, 20/11/19; Insurance Premiums on the RISE brace yourself; The ABC and Enviromentelism; Truth in Humour;

Coalition MPs have warned of soaring insurance costs for households and business owners since Cyclone Yasi battered Queensland eight years ago.

Panic sets in when Global Warming deniers find fault in their argument to normalise extreme weather. Insurance companies aren't alarmists or activists but are raising insurance premiums. Actuaries have studied these extreme events in weather and have adjusted premiums to reflect the predicted changes. It's a total denial of what people like Andrew Bolt and right-wing Australia has to say. That weather conditions like droughts, floods and storms are fewer and cause less damage.
 The effort to slash insurance costs at taxpayers expense is not really to help the victims of these increasing extremes but instead to mask their reality and enable the misinformation in their bullshit denials to continue. Climate Change and extreme weather are linked in the compounded and complex way smoking, and cancer are connected, and none of these hypocrites encourages their kids to smoke. When has either the LNP/IPA or News Corp even discussed these hard commercial consequences of climate reality that's been upwardly trending for the past 50 years?

Push to slash cyclone insurance costs for Queenslanders - at taxpayers' expense

The proposal revives a contested idea from four years ago that risks a clash with industry and will place more demands on the federal budget.

Natural history on TV: how the ABC took Australian animals to the people

 Something Australia's conservatives don't want quiet Australian's to know (ODT)

Early natural history television on the ABC showed audiences animals and places they didn’t even know existed, and explained natural processes in ways that were accessible and engaging. It also showed audiences how vulnerable these animals and habitats were to human actions and intervention.
Natural history television on the ABC didn’t just make animals entertaining: it implicated audiences in their lives and survival,  a significant factor in building environmental awareness.

FAKE AND TWISTED NEWS

How misleading and hypocritical is Andrew Bolt? He claims to want to debate issues show two or more sides to a question and let the public make up its mind. He says that but does the opposite in every aspect of his public appearances. It may have occurred once in the past when he was on the ABC's Insiders, but it certainly doesn't occur now.
Bolt generally has guests on his show that support the direction and do not oppose the position in any argument he's taken. The ABC Current Affairs programs tend to choose a different format to the one Bolt claims he prefers and practises. Bolt's dishonesty is impressive, and he's ready to twist what people say for his own purpose and not to offer his audience a mix of opposing views. When he's obviously caught out, he simply walks away.
Recently he promoted an IPA film on the Barrier Reef that completely misrepresented a scientists research. When she spoke up and complained, Bolt never returned to it leaving the promotion of the IPA's misinformation stand. He did the same to Dr Andy Pitman rather than allowing Pitman's correction stand, Bolt had to add "he corrected himself because he thought Bolt wasn't listening." Devious as a sewer rat is Andrew Bolt, whose reputation is all of his own makings.
Here he seems to be suggesting all Indigenous Australians are one and the same and not really a diverse and multicultural population. Pascoe's evidence of farming by Aborigines has been supported by archeological findings, and his theories don't stand alone. However, they happen to question current history as written and told throughout the past 200 years by white people as being correct. It's much like Bolt's outright denial that the Welfare Industry in Australia grew based on "Stolen Children" whose care wasn't the foremost concern of those involved. Pascoe won't appear on any of Bolt's shows he will, however, be talked about and explained to you by Andrew Bolt and that will constitute Bolts two sides to the story. Significantly the opposite of ABC practice. The ABC does what Andrew Bolt claims he does but doesn't. He preaches but doesn't practise or deliver what he preaches.
Science admits it's scepticism and doubt Smoking and Cancer, Warming and Green House Gas emissions, and after 50 years has grown more confident in the probability that they are linked. However, Andrew Bolt has warped ideas and expectations that the discipline needs to be "perfect" rather than probability-based. Which leads one to believe his intentions aren't as honest as he makes out. But are more like the intentions of the private PR people who still fight today to support smoking as a benign and harmless activity.
