Fighting Fake News with REAL 24/10/21; Media and metrics; Blind Trust Porter & Morrison; Murder or Accident on set;

In the last 8 years the LNP began with Abbott’s “No cuts to the ABC”, blatantly lied to our face, have taken $1bn dollars from it’s budget, restructured its board, and poisoned the fundamental charter on which it was constituted.  An Independent and public owned body to hold governments accountable. The ABC was never meant to be “balanced” but meant to be vigilant, critically questioning, and holding light on whether the government was performing for and of the people. The LNP killed the canary.

Designed to discipline workers into producing clickable and profitable content, newsroom analytics are radically changing the nature of media work — and hastening journalism’s ugly decline.

Leftist critics have been quick to indict corporate media, but less adept at articulating a new kind of media system, one that’s truly democratized under public ownership. This disconnect is surprising, given how the Left historically has seen the press as a crucial terrain for struggle. Social movements have long relied on various types of journalism, even within mainstream corporate media, to advance progressive causes. Reliable journalism and a functional news media system are vital components of any effort for progressive social change, from fighting fascism to halting climate change.

 Management by Metrics Is Upending Newsrooms and Killing Journalism

In a plot more reminiscent of an Agatha Christie mystery than a simple accident was a murder committed and if so by who? Not a movie within a movie the onset politics on Rust was rife. With the production crew about to go on strike tension on the production was high. Was Baldwin, a producer on this low budget film, set up? Set up by a very disgruntled crew member wanting to prove a point? America,after all has no gun laws to speak of, so loading a prop would hardly have been difficult. Did Baldwin do it? A producer to cast blame on the crew and union or was it another producer with a financial interest? After all wasn't the film insured in the event it failed to be completed, and if so for how much? The persons to suffer the most other than the family of the DOP killed are the prop-master and the on set standby who handed Baldwin the prop-gun.

It appears that a young 24 year girl, the daughter of a film prop armorer, was told she was capable of the armorer's job despite her insisting she wasn't ready for the role. It seems all it took was her father's word that landed her the job. Like most jobs in film it's more who than what you know that will get you on set.  However, her life is the one that will suffer the most and for the longest time particularly if she's made the scapegoat for this unfortunate event without the context fully examined and investigated. There is what appears to be a dysfunctional macro social and behavioral system that brought everyone together for that fatal moment and the probability of such a negative outcome no matter the individuals concerned. A low-budget production in search of a high profit return for it's investors rather than all of it's participants. The physical risks not really distributed evenly.

On Friday a Santa Fe judge approved a warrant for the sheriff’s office to seize firearms, clothing, cameras, video tapes and ammunition from the Bonanza Creek Ranch outside Santa Fe where Baldwin was filming the low budget western Rust.

Security guards were posted at the road leading to the ranch on Saturday.

According to an affidavit filed by a sheriff’s office detective, Baldwin was handed what he believed was a safe or “cold” prop gun during a rehearsal on Thursday but it contained live rounds when it was fired.

No charges have been filed in the case

Alec Baldwin was handed prop gun with live rounds

Alec Baldwin speaks on the phone in the parking lot outside the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office in Santa Fe, N.M., after he was questioned about a shooting on the set of the film "Rust" on the outskirts of Santa Fe, Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021. As the Los Angeles Times reported late Friday, the accidental shooting death of Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico set of “Rust” took place six hours after several union crew members left the location and were replaced by non-union workers.
