How 'Dark Emu' upset the Right-wing media

Bruce Pascoe actually wrote a book something Andrew Bolt has never done but he'll say he has that  cobbling collections of his columns makes him an author. (ODT)

THANKS, ANDREW. Because you made a fuss, I read the book and I learned something valuable.
I learned that recalcitrant racists will do and say anything to discredit any view of Australian history in which Aboriginal people are not desperate, hapless and hopeless savages who’ve been “saved” by the benign and well-meaning intervention of white colonialism.
I hope that Bolt continues whining because Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe deserves a wide audience. It will be interesting to see how many Federal MPs and senators join the newly inaugurated Parliamentary Book Club which has chosen ‘Dark Emu’ as its first topic book. It’s already sold well over 100,000 copies which is extraordinary for a non-fiction book from a small publisher.

Pascoe’s greatest crime – according to Bolt – is that he is “anti-white”:
He relies ultimately  on a view that if Pascoe is not Indigenous, then his views about Aboriginal history, agriculture and animal husbandry can be dismissed.
Secondly, the doubters argue, if Pascoe has consistently lied about his Aboriginal heritage then he is also lying about the research and conclusions in ‘Dark Emu’.
Of course, for Andrew Bolt, the detective work done by the people behind Dark Emu Exposed and The Truth Matters is like gold. He shamelessly and uncritically hoovers it up and regurgitates it in his poisonous columns for the Herald Sun.

Pascoe has always acknowledged that the history of his family has been difficult to fully piece together and that his Aboriginal ancestry is more than three generations away from today. Richard Guilliatt’s profile piece was written in May 2019, but it’s clear that Bruce Pascoe has been on Bolt’s attack radar for a long time.
Bolt first sneered at Bruce Pascoe’s claims of Aboriginal heritage in 2012, well before ‘Dark Emu’ was published. Since then, he has shamelessly leveraged the work of other people in mounting his attacks on Pascoe and his work.
What’s mildly amusing in all of this is that Bolt has probably never read ‘Dark Emu’ .
He’s been asked several times, most recently by Rick Morton writing in The Saturday Paper and each time he’s refused to directly answer:

However, I think ‘Dark Emu’ is an important book because it forces us to look at Australian history with fresh eyes that are not half-closed by the inherent bias that white history brings to our past. It also confronts us with ideas about Australia’s future transformation in the wake of climate change. That scares the denialists even more.

KK Klaner Andrew Bolt denies the AFP has "cleared" Bruce Pascoe of wrongdoing because they "dropped" the investigation and said there is no case to be heard. Remember how Bolt screamed when he was found guilty of racial vilification sloppy journalism and his intentional use of false facts. Bolt's a Murdochian, a purveyor of false facts for money. It's their culture here the US and the UK. Well, he's accusing the SMH and other Mainstream media of the same Fake News claiming that the AFP in "dropping" the investigation into Pascoe hasn't "cleared" him. One might ask why? Bolt is merely sensationalising Bruce Pascoe using him for the sake of his job and money for Murdoch. But is Bolt's seeming hate of Indigenous Culture only a pragmatic choice for this untalented hack's career path or does White History miswritten mean that much to a man who appears to loathe this country so much? Let's face it the British abhorred the Dutch for hundreds of years. Bolt dislikes Australia so much he shuns has Dutch dogs grows tulips doesn't holiday here and has sent his daughter away to be schooled. He openly dreams of retirement living, elsewhere.

As far as Bolt is concerned a Colonial culture, with an Inglorious history and is now trying to destroy the planet at an accelerated rate stands head and shoulders over one dubbed by him to have run its use-by date of  60,000 years. He labels Aborigines failures for "choosing" not to integrate but rather taint his.

Bruce Pascoe no matter his origins identifies as an Aboriginal Australian. We'd all would be better off doing the same instead of trying to bury that history in a fake Colonial Terra Nullius celebration that's a proven lie. But then Bolt identifies as Dutch who attempted to hide their WW2 truth for over 40 years until Israel shone a light on it. Bolt never talks about that part of his less than proud heritage. He's practised burying his truth but active in revealing others. We'd be better off blaming the Colonial Ceasar rather than praising his Colonial invasion that has led us to this shameful point of being the world's leading emitters of destruction X10. A reality Bolt in trying to impress so manically denies.

Mordecai Bromberg was right to have found him guilty and Bolt wrong in his efforts to erase truth and deny it.(ODT)

AFP emails show officers were armed during media raid

The Australian Federal Police initially classified its investigation into a high-profile national security leak as "routine" and of "low value", according to a cache of documents that also reveals police were armed when they launched two recent raids on the media.
Emails obtained by The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age under freedom of information laws also offer fresh evidence that Annika Smethurst, a senior member of the Canberra press gallery, could be prosecuted for publishing secret government information.

Activists climb into the Garzweiler lignite mine in Germany on June 22 as part of a protest against coal mining.

Germany's coal exit contrasts with Australia

Bochum, Germany: While the ink is still drying on the approval for Australia's new controversial coal mine, Germany is working to extinguish the coal industry entirely.
Adani was cleared to start work on the Carmichael mine in central Queensland in mid-June after the state government ticked off on the groundwater plans.
Director of global and European affairs with German mining trade union IG BCE Michael Mersmann visited Australia in 2016 to discuss transition with politicians and the CFMEU.
He said the concept of consensus was one of the most striking differences about business in Germany and Australia.
"One of the biggest problems Australia has is there is no existing relationship between employers, trade unions and states," he said.
"In your country you are rather heading towards a conflict, not a consensus. What we are trying to do here is have softer negotiations and find a solution at an earlier point."
Australia has no plans to phase out coal at this stage.

Wipe My Brough. I’m in Trouble

 mal

Since the airing of the 60 Minutes Ashby interview the murk of conservative gutter politics, with regard to the Ashby/Slipper Affair, has worsened.
James Ashby has left himself open to charges of perjury and Mal Brough (a private citizen at the time) has all but confessed that he incited Ashby to steal Slipper’s diary.
ashbygate3
Coalition gutter inhabitant Christopher Pyne has contradicted himself in saying that he had no direct knowledge of Ashby’s accusations other than what he read in the papers. Yet it is alleged he had a meeting with him to discuss the matter and might have offered him some form of job security.
He confirmed that he raised a possible Coalition win at the Queensland 2012 and federal 2013 elections as chances for Mr Ashby to secure a new job.
Why did channel nine wait until September 7 to air the interview? It could have done so while parliament was sitting. Questions would have had to be answered especially by Brough and Pyne.
Had they aired it a week earlier, on Sunday 31 August, it would have been at the start of a Parliamentary sitting week.It has been suggested that Ashby was paid $100,000 for the interview.

Labor backbencher Graham Perret has asked the AFP to urgently investigate the case. It is difficult to imagine they wouldn’t given Brough’s confession on 60 Minutes:
“I would urge the Australian Federal Police to proceed with its investigation immediately, especially given the risk of disappearance for vital evidence.”

Victorian Labor MP Michael Danby, has said he will ask the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions to examine whether Mr Ashby has perjured himself by changing his story on whether he was offered any incentives to make a sexual harassment claim against his then boss Mr Slipper.
Mr Danby said:
“Taking him at his word, James Ashby claims to have been induced by Liberal MPs into making his sordid claims against Peter Slipper. What he told 60 Minutes last night about these alleged inducements directly contradicts what Mr Ashby put on oath in a sworn affidavit?”
Let’s take a few steps backwards and look at the sequence of events.
ashbygate6
Sexual harassment claims were made by Ashby against Slipper. Justice Rares found that it was a vexatious claim and that its real purpose was to bring down the Speaker and cause as much havoc as possible to the minority government.
Later his judgement was overturned by the full court in a split decision and as a consequence we had two judges saying it was more to do with law than politics and two others saying the opposite. The appeal court determined that it should go to court to be sorted out. But then Ashby withdrew making a mockery of the court’s decision. It has always been about power and the price conservatives place on it. In this case they were even prepared to subvert our democracy to obtain it.

Both Pyne and Abbott insist they had no specific knowledge of the events but both are contradictory and by inference say they had a general knowledge. We need to know exactly what that was. Abbott for example needs to explain the mystery of how a press release calling for Slipper’s resignations was on the streets the moment the Telegraph went to press with the story. Metadata records even suggest that the press release was prepared prior to the Telegraph story. Remember the Telegraph was leading the media charge. Why is there is an application from June for the Commonwealth to pay $1 million for Ashby’s legal costs.
