You, at least, are better than this, Michael
" I’m disappointed that even Michael Keenan is repeating the Turnbull camp’s deceitful spin to imply Tony Abbott wants a “unilateral” deployment of Australian troops to Iraq or Syria."
This is not true Bolt needs to replay his interview with Abbott who slapped Bolt down repeatedly
Bolt despite being unable to define who the enemy or what the enemy looks like he wants troops on the ground. Whether a coalition or unilateral decision or whether they are special forces or or not how does he expect them to survive in a territory where the enemy remains unrecognizable. Bolts war game is played out on his kitchen table and is so far removed from reality as to be meaningless. Will the these special forces need a language? What language would that be Andrew Bolt Arabic, Turkmen, Parsi or what most people speak more than one.
What ever Abbott did or didn't say is beside the point that's just playing the kitchen table war and mixing it with Politics. No that's playing politics and mixing a kitchen table war with it. The fact is Turnbull , Abbott and Shorten are on the same page when it comes to ISIS. News Corp media is merely trying to ensure we believe they are not. Bolt flip flops around and in doing so shows he knows little or nothing about the Middle East other than what he takes off Fox News and US right wing media.
No but yes: Dreyfus denies comparing jihadists to Catholic/Protestant rivalry
" We’re dealing with a global terrorist threat that we face significantly here at home."
What Frydenberg and Bolt do is throw all terrorist threats and actions in Australia, France, Kenya, Libya and under put them under one banner and one simplistic global explanation. They blame Islam. They fail to mention the political differences of terrorism and the reason for their not occurring in different states whether the majority or minority of the population is Muslim. They tar everything with one brush making sweeping generalizations without accounting for the differences. That's what Dreyfus was alluding to. Two Jews can disagree Dreyfus and Frydenberg and it's called politics not Judaism. Two Muslims disagree and it's Islam.
Further Bolt and Frydenberg don't even begin to explain the differences as to why terrorism does exist for differing reasons in different countries that do have Muslim populations. The politics in all these places Mali and Syria differ and can't be put in their easy carry all explanation it's Islam. Iraq and Syria are different from Indonesia, Philipines etc just as there is a difference in the terrorist attacks by Christians in Christian countries such as Ireland, and the Latin Americas. Frydenberg and Bolt simply close their eyes to the differing social histories, economics and politics in each of the countries where terrorism occurs. If terrorism were the same why aren't they calling out for the bombing of terrorists universally rather than only Syria and Iraq.
The US has a population of 1.7% Muslims. 2% of those 3000 that died in 9/11 were Muslim. Conservatives egged on by News Corp have drummed up Muslim hatred since claiming American Muslims cheered when the Towers went down. New York Times Responds To Trump Mockery Of Reporter Who Debunked Bogus 9/11 Claim
Muslims suffered a larger loss proportionately as probably American Jews did but nobody suggested Jews didn't mourn. What is surprising was the high proportion of Muslims that were in fact integrated and working in that elite working environment. That fact alone should have brought Americans closer together particularly Jews & Muslims who suffered the greater losses as communities. Instead it Fox raised the level of bigotry among Christians to a fever pitch. Terrorism is a global phenomenon that is causing 97% of deaths not in the West but the East. It may be predominantly Muslim but it's not Islam
Memo to Turnbull: Abbott isn’t the enemy
Link Murdoch's Australian
Bolt is applying logic that's counter to Turnbull's about reaching out here than his logic when he suggested Turnbull when he accused of reaching out to IS and Australian Muslims. Here he says we need to reach out to AAA Abbott,Abetz and Andrews but not the Grand Mufti or any Muslims leaders. However we must reach out to the significant minority of Liberal whiteanters. Does he have a principle here or just a side? Sounds a threat to me.Malcolm Turnbull rejects talk of an Abbott-led insurgency

This is a war?
Who is Retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Tom McInerney . birther and less than ethical Fox military analyst Gen. Thomas McInerney is used to criticize the Obama administration. He's called birther McInerney because he refused to believe Obama was the legitimate US President until he produced his birth certificate. The man is right of Donald Trump and is dragged out by Fox News as their resident military expert. His approach to any detante is bomb the fuckers and send in the troops. You know the approach that failed in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq a true blue starter of wars. He was against any suggestion to negotiate a peace with the Taliban. We can surmise he loves nuclear weapons as well. He is the general portrayed in Dr Strangelove and Bolt loves him.Islamic State is a bit player in a much bigger fight
Saudis sentence poet to death for blasphemy
Isn't it amazing how Bolt overlooks the fact that Saudi Arabia is the worlds biggest exporter of Wahhabi in the world and it's more than a hot and spicey condiment. Saudi Arabia is the biggest sponsor of terror in the world and our friend. But Bolt rarely mentions them for anything more than that they are on the panel of the UNHRC and therefore how dare Gillian Triggs say
”Gone are the days when we could say, ‘How dare Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Libya criticize Australia’s human rights record,” Professor Triggs said in a speech on Australia’s asylum seekers and refugee policies."
Bolt's approach " Saudi Arabia is on the United Nations’ Human Rights Council. It is also a deadly enemy of free thought:" and the example of harsh laws in that state.
It's far more than an enemy of free thought it finances IS, Boko Haram etc etc.
There are 57 member states on the HRC that exemplifies a wide range of Bolt's "free thought" it's very strange Bolt denies the Saudis a right of place on that council or even their right of opinion. Bolt the free thinking conservative who wants 1) to trash the council altogether and 2) to disparage Gillian Triggs our appointee and their HRC represenative here. As far as Bolt is concerned the UNHCR is not entitled to be free thinking or a commentator of our refugee policies. Policies that are sending children mad and causing unwarranted deaths and harm to people the world regards as entitled to seek asylum and be assessed. They are certainly allowed to judge the poor job we are doing independently of politics.
Addressing the annual dinner of the Refugee and Immigration Legal Centre in Melbourne, Professor Triggs also:- Warned that indefinite administrative detention by the executive is risking being punitive, which would violate the separation of powers
- Accused the Australian delegation to the United Nations of repeating the "profoundly misleading" statement that Australia is the third largest resettlement country within the UNHCR settlement process, "failing to mention that this so-called 'lawful' process applies to about one per cent of the 60 million asylum seekers and displaced persons globally"
- Lamented that Australia, as a nation, "turned a blind eye" towards the management of immigration detention centres
- Asserted governments and political leaders have "played on community fears of terrorism and the undocumented entry by boat of refugees to concentrate power in the hands of the executive to the detriment of Australian liberty"
- Repeated her call for a legislated charter of rights to provide "some benchmark against which government actions and parliamentary laws can be assessed"
- Described the decline in the rule of law as "one of the most troubling recent developments"
"We are quick to assert our liberties under the rubric of a 'fair go' - a phrase that is as close to a bill of rights in this country as we are likely to get."
