The world will suffer a global economic recession because of the coronavirus pandemic, ratings agency S&P Global has warned with Australia's unemployment rate likely to push to the highest level since 1988. 

One could well ask whether the extreme measures applied by China in closing the nation down and now followed by the majority of the world isn't an overreaction driving the world into recession. The fact is Capitalism is the least effective means by which Public Health can be administered. Health a right and not a privilege to be earned bought, sold and gauged for profit which is what is happening in America and who Morrison is intent on following for "the best advice"

We need to name and shame those taking advantage of this crisis eg selling $1.10 petrol for $1.65, or hoarders that will be selling product on ebay and social media scalping. Opportunists seeking political advantage in face of a global and national issue.

COLUMN This coronavirus panic will kill lots of jobs. So our politicians must at least end the green madness that’s stopping big projects from starting up and hiring. Today he's back to telling us that warming is good for the planet and the opportunity is now.

Universal Health and Capitalism run cross purposes the goal of human health as a right can't be achieved under Capitalism. To recognize this is to recognize that adversarial politics in inefficient in a crisis. The LNP and the ALP need to formulate a common purpose during this crisis and not one that's merely mimicking America. The Dutch seem to have arrived at the conclusion that closing their nation down is an overreach. So an entirely different approach needed but unfortunately the entire EU that doesn't share their strategy that too will ensure a collapse unless borders are closed. Common purpose is just that and unless one can be found and found quickly shutting a country down will do more long term harm than allowing it to run to achieve herd immunity.

Coronavirus may not be a cold or flu however we know its selective in it's targets and the Italian stats indicate there's merely a one year gap between those dying at age 81 and the average life expectancy of an Italian at 82. The public health system can't cope with treating all those in their 80s but it can focus on prevention and protection of them and the other few minority that are vulnerable leaving the majority of the pop to carry on as normal.

 In post-war Australia we saw just how meaningless wars are with the arrival of migrants Germans Poles, Yugoslavs Serbs and Croatians, Italians Greeks Turks differing languages cultures and religions here all working side by side on projects like the Snowy. The very opposite of what Andrew Bolt rails about the division that he claims diversity generates actually we saw the very opposite unity. 

Today the Coronavirus actually reflects that same unity as does climate and it's global and without borders all of which bigots like Murdoch media, Trump today deny in their Xenophobic blame with terms like the China virus. They don't do the same for German measles, Spanish flu, Bali Belly or anything peculiarly named illness. America today is actually the biggest exporter of the China virus and Trump is using it for his political advantage with medical sanctions to MAGA. Andrew Bolt has never been to war he has no relations that have been to war for Australia and the only association he has with war is his family ties to Aalsmeer the most notorious town in the Netherlands where the citizens elected mayor was hanged for his collaboration with the Nazis. The good folk of Alsmeer were noted for their enthusiasm in hunting and killing Jews. The Dutch post-WW2 let the world know what heroes they were by creating a myth of anti-Nazi culture and that they actively protected Jews. That myth was brought to an end in the 1980s by the Jews themselves. Investigators who showed that the Dutch deported and killed more of their own Jewish pop per head than even the Germans did. 
Andrew Bolt is known for keeping his family history close to his chest. He's publicly stated he'd never felt Australian until after his marriage but somehow has been overly eager to fashion and adopt Australia's Culture as being not multicultural but Imperial, monarchist and largely British despite the fact that he has absolutely no heritage or family connection to any of Australia's wars. In fact given his heritage Aalsmeer he has more in common with the Germans  He's not a historian he has no academic qualifications to even suggest he has any first-hand knowledge of what it means to be an ANZAC and what it means to those Australians that do. Andrew Bolt is merely a camp follower who wants to steal the party.
People far wiser than Bolt like our retired head of our ADF Admiral Chris Barrie, Gary Oakley an Indigenous AustralianVET from the ATSI Veterans and Services Association Ben Quilty our official war artist in Afghanistan and Booker Prize winner Richard Flanagan whose family history of war are all Australians that do have a real connection and all seem to deconstruct Bolt's glorification and his need for a false flag myth typical of the one the Dutch attempted to construct after WW2. 
I don't know what Rowan Dean's connection to ANZAC day is he doesn't acknowledge one and I suspect he has none. He's been brought onto The Bolt Report as the creative the ad man to help sell the myth by tearing down those who like Admiral Barrie and Luenig refuse to be camp followers. Anyway, all these people are disgusted with the way the term ANZAC has been misappropriated by various interests and fail to serve history, the reality of war and those that served and are currently serving on active duty outside of Australia. Admiral Barrie is disgusted with Abbott's $100 mill Disney monument in France and the proposed other $500 mill one in the future. None serve to assist the Veterans today and to glorify war in the National interest instead of peace is a disgrace. Monuments, flags, uniforms and anthems don't for a moment reflect the truth Australian experience Of British, German, Turkish, Japanese Australians living together in peace. Admiral Barrie is quite clear that Bolt and Dean have lost the plot and that Luenig is far closer to the truth that ANZAC day has been kidnapped Commercialized, Militarized, and used by national extremists and that these two Australians Bolt and Dean are simply camp followers partying and attempting to steal some glory  of war for no good purpose where there was none and to which they have no connection. Bolt definitely almost has a struggle to say he too was a proud vet has the mythical medals to prove it. His sons marched in the school band wow. However hard he tries to bury his past in Aalsmeer it won't wash unless he begins to celebrate the peace fought for in multicultural Australia.

He'd call the Indigenous servicemen that served and wanted to come home but were denied the right because of the White Australia Policy liars. Those that did come home to find their children had been stolen to find Bolts denying them the mateship found in the trenches. All of these realities Bolt and Dean would call disrespect for their ANZAC myth that for many is and remains a lie.

What fails to be promoted is the changing history of this nation from the Colonial Empire's land of the unwanted and cheap labour camp to a multicultural settler Democracy.There were little if no positive aspects to this Colony and it's power structure which endured but for the migrants that came and redefined the meaning of unity. Bolt only talks of the enduring unity of the elite and the elements of culture that only he and the regressive privileged want to be maintained. Those aspects identified by Tony Abbott as 'Team Australia' a very small team indeed.
 There was never a 'Team Australia' from invasion day the privileged and powerful ensured that. There wasn't a time when Australia wasn't conflicted and the majority poor working class generally Irish, Catholic, or indigenous slowly many as Richard Flanagan pointed out many became more indigenous than they did loyalist and affluent the ranks of whom were blocked.
The army was one of the only means to equal opportunity in this country and provided even the indigenous with the equal right to die next to a white man who he could call mate until of course, he got back home.
 That class division and suspicion lasted well into the fifties between Protestants and Catholics when escapees from Europe came Bolt's Parents hadn't heard of this place until called for. Where they ten-pound migrants? Why did they escape the Netherlands on might well ask? Why doesn't Bolt promote his family history as the families of ANZACS do? He celebrates the history of others as if it were his own stealing their medals and stories. His history is falsely misappropriated claiming he's a true blue Aussie now when for over half his life he denied it. There is something dark and untold here as his cultural preferences aren't Australian nor ANZAC at all. Andrew Bolt admits to being a loner not too many mates for him.

They, in fact, promote and abuse those for recognizing the real unity of different cultures living together in peace. I dare Bolt to call Admiral Barrie un-Australian. The racism Bolt promotes is here in front of us masked by the simplistic stupidity of his words "proud as"

GOOD, NO TAX RISES. BUT THE NDIS IS STILL A TAX-GUZZLER

Good that it won't raise taxes: "The Turnbull government has abandoned a plan to increase the Medicare levy by 0.5 percent to pay for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, saying improvements in the Australian economy mean the measure is no longer necessary."  But Labor forced this change, and now won't raise the levy on the "rich", either.

Andrew Bolt is the advocate for privatised health trying to sell the pup that competition drives prices down the American model that has left 30 million Americans without any health cover and over half undercovered. With competitive advertising and complimentary administrative staffing in every organization competing for customers. It's left the USA with the most expensive but even the worst health delivery service among OECD countries in the world. That's what Bolt wants here. For people when sick to negotiate the private health system stressed when they are already sick and expect the families of those to also take on the burden of that stress.
Centralized healthcare services and provider education of doctors nurses and others cut's costs not raises them as seen in the services provided in the UK and Nordic countries where if you're sick you are provided with super quality service for everyone and freedom of stress to boot. It doesn't mean the "rich" can't pay extra if they so want when extra hasn't been proven to be necassarily better. However, they then do have the choice of paying the gap between the national insurer and the private service.  However per head of population why are Americans paying 3- 5 times more for services that aren't any better but more often worse than anywhere else with the accompanying stress?
Let's not talk about tax alone but compare what taxes get you in Finland. When a middle-class wage was $62,000 30% tax got you universal health with NDIS, Free education Paid parental leave when having children for both parents Free child care and preschool until the age of 7 and countless other benefits such as unemployment  and Age Care on an international scale of comparison of quality the same if not  better than here. Couple that with the less mental stress and the resultant index of well being is something Andrew Bolt can't begin to comprehend. Imagine he could mix with all classes of people without worrying if or not they were bludgers.  How is this all possible economy of scale for one cutting out all the fricking middlemen the reduced administrative and advertising costs that competition brings and transparency the mother of all evils in a freemarket that doesn't deliver freedom at all as opposed to an regulated market whose purpose is to deliver equally and free the individual citizen family and community from anxiety.

If Bolt's Lebanese "who let him in"  "CHANNEL 9 still won’t give us more than spin about its role in the bungled kidnapping of two children in Lebanon." CH9 has admitted they made errors and failed what they set out to do.  According to Australian law the children were taken illegally from Australia by there father. So the action Bolt calls a kidnapping wasin fact an attempted recovery unless of course sees himself as Lebanese.

 Bolt's sole excercise here is to discredit Ch9 News Corp's  competition to Sky News in the media market. Bolt's not interested in any truth.  If any  illegalities occurred they are not up to vigilantes like Bolt to judge. The ABC certainly don't follow Bolt's suit. However as I said  if Bolt's only purpose is to discredit and slag Ch9 it doesn't suggest that News Corp offers a better service. Recent research suggests that only 6% of people trust Corporate Media any more. But that's something you will never hear from Bolt.

 

 

 

 

Column - Turnbull must give a better choice than Shorten

Bolt's premise is totally wrong here The Coalition needs to give the electorate a better choice than the ALP. Governments are party driven and are not Presidential elections as Bolt  seems to suggest they are. The party got rid of Abbott and the Party will determine who takes them to the election on July2. So Bolt your banner is totally ignorant an un- Australian.

If Bolt had his way there would be more than Africans he'd have kicked out  of Australia. His claim was that Asians are the new "invasion"  because they have established  self sustaining colonies. However they have for over a 100 years. We are proud of our various China Towns and Little Vietnams they are as Australian as the Hills hoist once was. 

 It's a wonder Bolt isn't celebrating the fact that Africans and Asians are intimidating each other.  Bolt is attempting to amplify an Australian youth problem as being only a migrant problem when it's not. Youth crime is a general problem we have always faced.  A News Corp report  Bolt's  team show

  So it's not an immigration issue. Bolt's neo-fascist stance is to everything as if it were an immigration issue. Quite an number of types of offences are on the decline and repeat offenders aren't accounted for in the crime statistics  which also skew results.

  The number of youth offenders decreased by 2,223 offenders (or 3%) to 85,442 between 2013-14 and 2014-15. Youth offenders comprised just over a fifth (21%) of the total offender population in 2014-15, while representing 14% of the total Australian Estimated Resident Population (ERP). (Table 18)

Between 2013-14 and 2014-15, the most notable changes in youth offenders were for the principal offences of:

• Acts intended to cause injury (a decrease of 8% to 11,961 offenders);
• Unlawful entry with intent (a decrease of 12% to 4,683 offenders);
• Illicit drug offences (an increase of 8% to 13,194 offenders);
• Theft (an increase of 7% to 24,525 offenders); and
• Public order offences (a decrease 15% to 12,242 offenders). (Table 18)

 

 

Call this a war?

 

Bolt is telling us not to withdraw but to escalate war and wait for it we need to "spend more on war". Further being forced to have anything to do with locals when  we are in a foreign country is insane. Obviously has no interest in intelligence. Generally we don't call that war  call that an invasion. In order to do that we of course would have to spend money. But that sort of spending Bolt supports.

Remember when Chris Kenny came back from Nauru to tell us it was a holiday resort for detainees that he wished he could have spent more time to indulge himself at.   With no real information provided about a 16 year old boys arrest. Andrew Bolt takes the opportunity to discredit Muslims, refugees and migrants. He is the last person that illuminates  what Australians  fought for and what AZACS represented. They fought for a multicultural country. Anzac day also represents failures of the politicians of the day generally coalition who sent the young men to wars that ought never have been fought. Vietnam the greatest failure of them all.

Yep Bolt looks for those exceptions to the rule the actions of a single teenager to tell us  that we can't trust each other and that ISIS is all around us because we have imported the problem and we don't train our children well enough.  Socialization has gone awry our kids need to be trained like the Hitler youth was and we need to dob people in being paranoid is  the only way to stay secure. 

 Before Muslim terrorism was invented in this country good old Australian kids vandalized monuments, headstones in graveyards and did  all manner of outlandish things. They frightened some people. Only back then we didn't call it terrorism. We once called it the actions of larrikans, ratbags bodgies and teenage folly. We once thought the world was coming to a halt when mods and rockers fought on our streets.   We never made as much fuss when private school kids burnt hedges brawled or even killed each other  as Bolt does about a  16 year old who at present he knows nothing about. .  There is a purpose  but no logic to  selling of this as alarming.

For Bolt the alarmists are the 97% of scientists and 197 countries who believe in climate change..Get a grip!!

Bolt believes in training not learning. He hasn't a clue the best educators in the world in  Norway believe the reverse. Children don't even begin formal schooling there until they are seven and by the time they have finished high school they speak 3 languages three languages that are quite dissimilar. They are worlds best in reading and math and are taught in government classrooms and are not selectively streamed. 

All Bolt is concerned about is  the dirty bits sex which was something never spoken of in his past and was taught behind the bicycle sheds. Bolt believes  what happens behind the bicycle sheds should stay behind the bicycle sheds or you  can get it off the internet. Like Butthead and Bevis it's and area of social relationships that remains a no go zone only to be sniggered at. Hey celibate priests and nuns can teach it.  It's an area obviously unknown to Bolt and he's 57.  How was he to teach his kids about human relationships by example, when? Bolt's agnostic so he is filled with doubt but seems certain  God created Adam and Eve and not Adam and Steve.

 

Spending our way deeper into trouble

 

Bolt goes on and on and on about spending like a fish wife but does he suggest whose fault it is?Yes ,he has blamed Labor then he blamed the Senate. He has spent an enormous amount of effort accusing everybody but those that held the purse strings Abbott and Hockey. Abbott was  like chicken little, yelling the sky was falling in, when he wanted the power of the purse  and we gave it to him. He delivered the worst received budget in our history with Hockey and Corman sitting back like fat cats smoking cigars after. That was enough and he stopped alarming us and he said the budget was "fixed". In other words we were back on track the slide into oblivion was over. So from that point in 2014 the budget was no longer Labor's fault. From that point  however Abbott's government started to spend as if they'd won the jackpot

Ergas and even Abbott pointed out today that investing in our children is a total overspending and a waste of time and money.  Maybe  Hitler's bookkeeper Ergas would suggest we should stop having children and Bolt would certainly agree with that too.  He's always on about how Aborigines, Muslims, Migrants and single mothers have more kids than traditional families and they are dysfunctional. When will they begin advocating necessity of sterilization programs in Dandenong and the housing commission areas?

According to Ergas our education program unlike Norways whose motto is "do everything we can"and is the best in the world is failing. The worst kids in the classrooms here are dragging down the best. Again attention is not given to why  our program is such a failure but how to save money.

 Education it seems is not necessary for everyone . So lets sort the chaff from the wheat and possibly stop education  for all and be more selective.  This  type of efficiency program should be applied to health as well where there is a lot of waste.  Yes Henry Ergas does sound like, Hitlers bookkeeper but then all efficiency experts do and in doing so never focus the upper class only the lower. " it has long been Labor’s chosen road too. The test for Scott Morrison is whether the Coalition can do better."  Ergas spreads the Myth that the coalition are better managers he never mentions that Abbott was lying that the budget wasn't fixed and that revenue was plunging and what Abbott was spending money on was not helping but they sacked 3.500 revenue collectors onadvice from the IPA and Business Council.

The problem is our Bureau of Statistics show Ergas and Bolt are lying and that the rate of spending since Abbott said it was fixed has doubled. Abbott  since July 2014 put the foot on the spending accelerator.  The problem it was in areas of flags uniforms security defense and monuments.
