Once again, the Liberals find themselves on the wrong side of history
Waleed Aly"It’s a remarkable thing to see a populist political stance transform into a liability in front of your eyes. So it is with the federal Coalition’s adventures in climate denialism.
Consider the story arc commencing with Tony Abbott’s leadership: what was once perhaps the most potent stick an opposition leader has wielded – leaving both Kevin Rudd and Julia Gillard in its wreckage – this week disintegrated to the point that even the Coalition’s own colleagues in the NSW government have now abandoned them."
We're Allowed to Celebrate Trump's Withdrawal From Syria
It is long past time to leave behind childish things – excessive optimism, sentimentality (for the Kurds, for example), and the foolish fantasy of America’s special mission to transform the world – in the interest of sound strategy. Love Trump or hate him, his decision on Syria is neither “impulsive,” “irresponsible,” or unacceptably “dangerous.” The president is delivering on his – albeit muddled – campaign promise to eschew risky interventionism and put American interests first in foreign policy. Let us give credit where credit is do.Losers
1 Israel because the Russians are there to assist Syria with real weaponry
2 YPG Kurds abandoned and doublecrossed by the US will have now to face off against Turkey.
3 Iraq in fear of the resurgence of ISIL
4 The Saudis
5 The USA because who will trust them again?
Winners
1 Turkey will become a greater force in the region it blunted the US against Iran and effectively weakened the Saudis while making inroads with their relationship with Russia.
2 Iran
3 Russia it's sphere of influence significantly strengthened
4 The Assad Regime. They will assist the abandoned Kurds and protect them from Turkey
5 The Shiite militias from Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran because they will remain a force against ISIS
NEW: THE ANDREW BOLT PODCAST
Andrew Bolt is such a drama queen his podcast with John Roskam has failed to rate he hasn't a radio show to call his own so he has done a podcast . Bolt constantly talks of debate and discussion but never appears on any platform that provides such a format. Rather he simply provides his audience with editorials and monologues as would a preacher who believes he has the answers to Australia's salvation. Answers however that only favour an elect minority in this country rather than the common good.
His podcast with John Roskam failed to rate yet Bolt claimed it was No1 when it was first released. This one is far more pretentious overproduced and shows Bolt off at his best which in the world of podcasts is scraping the bottom of the barrel. It's schoolboy trash presented by an adult without an autocue.
Bolt hated Trump, promoted Trump, now dislikes Trump, but now appreciates Trump for the hate Trump brings about from his opposition. All of this shows Bolt off to be everybody's man but his own and the beginning of this effort for attention seems to be just another attempt to grab centre stage the most conservative way possible. Take on every form of media possible and the fragmentation will gurantee a fragmented following at least if not a united one. It seems after all these years he's been desperately trying to collect a crowd but with the failure of the LNP, he needs other alternatives. Unlike real journalists and commentators, Bolt's followers seem thin on the ground. His podcast seems more than confused and sounds very jerrybuilt paraphrasing the words of others rather than his own. But then where would Bolt be without the ABC and Fairfax Ltd and News Corp certainly not the pretender he is now.
