Vermont Governor Phil Scott said he supported an impeachment inquiry into the actions of Donald Trump.

Vermont Republican first to support Trump impeachment

Governor Phil Scott said he wasn't surprised by the news about Trump.
"In the course of my official duties, I have received information from multiple US government officials that the President of the United States is using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 US election," the whistleblower wrote in the August 12 complaint. ( Whistleblower)

"I think the whistleblower did the right thing. I think he followed the law every step of the way, Maguire said. "I believe the whistleblower is operating in good faith." (DNI)
This contrasted with Trump's previous claim that the whistleblower complaint was a "partisan hack job".
In a closed-door fundraiser in New York on Thursday Trump reportedly said: "I want to know who’s the person who gave the whistleblower the information because that’s close to a spy.
"You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart with spies and treason, right? We used to handle it a little differently than we do now." (TRUMP)

Forty-five years ago, President Richard Nixon resigned. His impeachment at the time seemed almost certain, as key Republican senators had signalled they would no longer support him. But Nixon’s acolytes did not blame their president for his gross corruption and mind-boggling criminality. Instead, they blamed the press -- the “enemy,” as Nixon had described it -- for hounding him out of office.
Over two decades later, Roger Ailes, one of those Nixon retainers, founded Fox News. As the network has gained power and influence, it has played many roles -- an attack dog that savages progressive policies and individuals, a counterweight to a media that conservatives consider unbearably liberal, a radicalization engine that brings a bigoted ideology from the fringes into the homes of millions of Americans, and a propaganda machine that champions conservative politicians.
Over the past week, we’ve seen another one of Fox’s roles. As it has become clear that President Donald Trump used the office of the presidency to suborn a foreign government to investigate one of his political opponents -- triggering a formal impeachment inquiry -- Fox has been serving as a bulwark against the repetition of Nixon’s fall.
If Real Media attempt to vet or test the top-down narrative of what's happening they get slammed by Murdoch's Fox Corp just as the ABC is slammed here. The difference there are only too many media outlets in the US, so they are simply clubbed by the Fox /Trump Press as Fake News.
The ABC is our main bulwark against political bullshit and this why Murdoch wants them gone, while the government hates being questioned by Aunty and is on the same page. So its safe ports are private media quickly bought, 2GB and Sky being most favoured suspects. Murdoch Media win or lose no longer needs journalists for the holy dollar just spin doctors, and they are a dime a dozen who just fight for ratings, not any truth-based data facts or analysis. When not doing spin it's a game of whack-a-mole an attack anyone or anything that might demean, disparage embarrass their favourite dogs in the race. Any form of public unity against our current LNP Government needs fragmenting (ODT)

According to the whistleblower, in the days following the call, “senior White House officials had intervened to ‘lock down’ all records of the phone call, especially the official word-for-word transcript of the call that was produced as is customary by the White House Situation Room”.
The White House released a memo of the call, but not a verbatim transcript, on Wednesday.
Officials were directed by White House lawyers to remove the transcript from the computer system where “such transcripts are typically stored”, the whistleblower wrote. The transcript was instead stored in a separate system “that is otherwise used to store and handle classified information of an especially sensitive nature”.
“One White House official described this act as an abuse of this electronic system because the call did not contain anything remotely sensitive from a national security perspective,” the whistleblower wrote.
“This set of actions underscored to me that White House officials understood the gravity of what had transpired in the call.”

The summary of a call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky released on Wednesday not only confirmed reports that Trump repeatedly pressured the foreign leader to uncover damaging information about former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, but also thrust Attorney General William Barr into the center of a rapidly unfolding scandal.
In the July call, Trump urged Zelensky to follow up with Barr, as well as with the president’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani. “There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great,” Trump said, according to the summary. On four separate occasions, according to the document, Trump said that his “Attorney General” or “Attorney General Barr” would call Zelensky about the matter.
