More Blathering from Morrison.
Just can't believe we are seeing this man say this.

Several groups are pushing for free rapid kits to be provided to specific groups of people, including businesses and low-income households.

How do you begin to declare a new "system" is in place when there is no apparent "system" in existense? It seems it seems Morrison wants chaos and confusion about the real numbers  of Covid infected people in the community. Less is a benefit to the government and and unregulated grab for RATs will guarantee that the real numbers are lower than they really are.

Morrison on the other hand has created a capitalist monster of a jungle with speculators draining the market of RATs for profit. A night club owner buying up 86.000 kits to sell. Morrison's ideal market has been let loose to battle against itself rather than team together to fight the common cause, the pandemic. With no concern about long term effects of Covid or the pressure on our hospitals all Morrison's done is offered a slightly qualified "let it rip" coupled with yet another promised gov strollout, "kits are on their way". Doctors were telling Morrison months ago to buy what he hasn't until now with no certainty of arrival. A promise of RATS has been made to a limited number of sectors when these kits become available Morrison has pledged. The States can do the rest it's simply not his problem. He's changed the definitions of the pathways to success and failure  told Australia what they were. Now it's up to us... he doesn't lick the stamps.

The nation’s Pharmacy Guild proposed a “hybrid” model to the government, warning a free-for-all on tests would leave the system swamped by healthy people wanting to stock up.

Nightclub owner Martha Tsamis set up a medical supplies business that has sold more than 800,000 rapid antigen tests since October.

State and federal governments may be scrambling to secure rapid antigen tests to ease the burden on PCR testing, but several Melbourne businesses recognised the potential of the fast-acting and relatively inexpensive technology months ago. Nightclub owner Martha Tsamis has sold more than 800,000 of the 15-minute tests since October, when she negotiated distribution deals with manufacturers in Australia, China and South Korea. Ms Tsamis had originally bought a few thousand rapid antigen tests for staff and patrons of her late-night venues Chasers in South Yarra and Inflation in the CBD. Now, her new business Oz Medical employs seven full-time staff and supplies thousands of the tests to every Australian state – other than Western Australia, where they remain prohibited.

Former president Donald Trump’s next leadership tilt is much better organised.

The first attempt to subvert a democratic election result was chaotic. Donald Trump and his allies are better organised now.

Washington: One year after thousands of his supporters stormed the US Capitol, Donald Trump plans to mark the anniversary on January 6 with a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

It will be no mea culpa.

In a statement issued before Christmas, the former president made it clear that he would use the event to reassert his false claim that the election was “stolen”, and launch yet another attack on the bipartisan select House committee investigating the incident.

“Until then, remember, the insurrection took place on November 3rd,” Trump said, referencing the day of the 2020 election.

“It was the completely unarmed protest of the rigged election that took place on January 6th.”

Democracy

The Capitol attack was Trump’s dress rehearsal

But in more recent years I’ve come around. As America has moved closer to being an oligarchy — with staggering inequalities of income, wealth, and power not seen in over a century — and closer to Trumpian neofascism (the two moves are connected), “It’s a Wonderful Life” speaks to what’s gone wrong and what must be done to make it right.

Soon after “It’s a Wonderful Life” was released, the FBI considered it evidence of Communist Party infiltration of the film industry. The FBI’s Los Angeles field office — using a report by an ad-hoc group that included Fountainhead writer and future Trump pin-up girl Ayn Rand — warned that the movie represented “rather obvious attempts to discredit bankers by casting Lionel Barrymore as a ‘scrooge-type’ so that he would be the most hated man in the picture.” The movie “deliberately maligned the upper class, attempting to show the people who had money were mean and despicable characters. This … is a common trick used by Communists.”

The FBI report compared “It’s a Wonderful Life” to a Soviet film, and alleged that Frank Capra was “associated with left-wing groups” and that screenwriters Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett were “very close to known Communists.”

This was all rubbish, of course — and a prelude to the Red Scare led by Republican Senator Joe McCarthy of Wisconsin, who launched a series of highly publicized probes into alleged Communist penetration of Hollywood, the State Department, and even the US Army.

The movie was also prelude to modern Republican ideology. Since Ronald Reagan, Republicans have used Potter-like social Darwinism to justify everything tax cuts for the wealthy, union-busting, and cutbacks in social safety nets. Rand herself became a hero to many in the Trump administration.

UNREPORTED MORRISON'S XMAS GIFT TO THE AGED " LET IT RIP"

The ‘let it rip for Christmas’ COVID policies urged by Scott Morrison and Dominic Perrottet have come home to roost where they were always going to – on the elderly. More than 100 aged care homes are now in Tier 0 severe lockdown, the number suffering COVID outbreaks nearly doubling in a week. Rather than “opening up” for family Christmas, thousands of elderly Australians are confined to their rooms today, having a solitary Christmas lunch, denied all visitors, not even allowed to share the meal with their peers. On behalf of the distressed residents, their worried families and the shockingly stretched aged care workers, I invite the Prime Minister and NSW Premier to “stare down” the virus and take “personal responsibility” for a few weeks in solitary confinement, without a personal photographer for company. The tragedy of Christmas 2021 for the residents and staff in aged care facilities has been (almost) unreported.

In Australia, for example, coverage of asylum seekers in the conservative, particularly tabloid, media has over the last decade been based too often on the incorrect framing that they are “illegal” and “queue jumpers.” Too rarely is the coverage based on the facts. This media (intended) failure has enabled the government to continue to persecute innocent people who came to us seeking safety.

Culture war “games” have thus turned life and death issues into something too “political” to address (either rationally) or intelligently. The spirit of Schwartz Media, Michael West Media and our other organisations dedicated to holding the powerful to account needs to be embraced by our legacy masthead writers. We need to consider the laws that can be crafted to balance the damage done by Malcolm Turnbull’s 2017 slashing of our media ownership laws. In a moment when the climate and democracy decay form a deadly helix, we cannot afford to have entertainment or agenda masquerading as news.

We need to debate new ways to fund the reliable news utterly critical to the functioning of democracy.

Too much is at stake to allow our news to frame this moment as “business as usual.”

Morrison hates accountability — this is no secret. Since the start of his political career, he has acted with scant regard for any form of repercussions and any standards he cannot actively control, he rages against. He has consistently lost his temper in Parliament and the truth is an anathema to him. In many ways, he should be a strong media’s dream. He is a constant source of supercilious behaviour, masquerading as an everyman for which journalists can constantly critique.

The media is meant to act as a watchdog for those in power. Politics already has too few checks and balances to ward off corruption in this country, so a fawning media only emboldens this behaviour further. If some in the media aren’t going to do their job as the Fourth Estate, it seems all rather pointless.

Former prime minister Kevin Rudd giving evidence to the Senate inquiry into media diversity in Australia earlier this year.

A Labor and Greens-dominated Senate committee has called for a judicial inquiry with royal commission powers into media diversity - a finding rejected as a “stunt” by the Liberal deputy chair

In a majority report backed by Labor senators, the Senate’s communications committee concluded a judicial inquiry with royal commission powers was needed to “determine whether the existing system of media regulation is fit-for-purpose and to investigate the concentration of media ownership in Australia”.

But Liberal senator Andrew Bragg, the deputy chair of the inquiry, savaged the findings in a dissenting report, saying the inquiry had been “a stunt conducted at taxpayers’ expense”.

The recommendation was welcomed by former prime minister Kevin Rudd, whose campaign for a royal commission to examine News Corp Australia’s influence on the domestic media landscape led to the creation of the Senate inquiry.

“This report vindicates the concerns of the 500,000 Australians who last year signed the record-breaking ePetition calling for a royal commission,” Mr Rudd said.

A little administrative juggling, and an unlikely set of funding proposals magically turns into reality, writes Jommy Tee in his continuing series on regional grants.

Michael West Media (MWM) has previously outlined the corrupt process where 161 grants worth $165 million were manipulated by the ministerial panel overseeing BBRF Round 3 and Round 4 and heavily skewed to Coalition seats. Round 5 grants worth $300 million were announced in early October. Not surprisingly the grants were heavily skewed to government seats by the ministerial panel that interferes in the awarding of the grants, despite the evidence of government officials.

First, let’s turn to the secretary’s evidence. Labor’s Senator Murray Watt tried to drill down into the opaque process of the advice that the department provided to the ministerial panel. The secretary responded:

… it may be in the nature of our advice into the cabinet deliberations, which, ordinarily — I think it is in the public interest for us to be able to do that in a way that remains private for governments of all persuasions going forward.

An extraordinary statement from the head of a department that oversees among others the rorted Community Development Grants, Urban Congestion Fund, and Commuter Car Park Fund.

How Murdoch manipulates the climate of Australian politics

There is nothing original in this move. Philip Morris declared it was about to "UNSMOKE" the world. That it was anti-smoking, and even e-smoking but was investing heavily in delivering tobacco in an alternative way via IQOS technology and heat-sticks. They were  going to be better than any nationally driven QUIT campaigns Yes, like Philip Morris Angus Taylor and Rupert Murdoch are about to De Carbonize Australia no, the planet, and deliver coal and fossil fuels in an alternative way to the Globe. First is to change the language about what it is they and the industry are really doing They are going to Ladbroke, no Clean the world. Second is to throw heaps of money at Murdoch to promote it and by establishing a taxpayer Welfare Fund of $250bn for the industry, which by the way is neither a tax nor a subsidy to be paid by any Australians, but a loan. It's not a leg up but it's because of the ignorant, and irrational divestment of funds from export of such profitable and economically efficient climate saving resources. It needs to be done to save not retrain or create the few jobs lost. Jobs being lost more by the  automation of the industry rather than the consequence of renewables.  Third is to create a technological smokescreen and "green-wash" the filthy product and habit just as Philip Morris has done Smoke.

Nicotine will still be delivered along with " nano-particulates" instead of carcinogenic tar and smoke. Mind you those 52 new chemicals will also have unadvertised but known side-effects. However a cleaner man-made CO2 will be delivered into the atmosphere as has always been done because  "Net-Zero Emission by 2050 was never a Zero- CO2" says Angus. Even Andrew Bolt is in on the act and allowed to call this flip "rubbish" not because he's against it but rather the very "science of global warming is a religion". The methodology is faith based and Bolt's laser logic of denial-ism far far more precise, scientific so Murdoch,Taylor and the LNP don't really need to pander or even listen to other nations, banks, corporations or Greta that mad mentally deranged child,or let alone 80% of the public to govern this stand alone country.

But for those of us who have been watching closely, it also seems possible, even likely, that this sudden awareness of climate change by News Corp signals a new and more sophisticated greenwashing of the political discourse.

Biden’s desire for an alliance against China in pursuit of a return to “rules-based order” — heavily slanted in favour of the West — has been oft-expressed. The south must be ruled out. But so too, it would seem, must be the EU. Germany is still dependent on exports to China for its prosperity, and the Belt and Road Initiative is increasing China-EU trade at a cracking pace.If the US doesn’t trust the EU regarding China, it would have a major interest in breaking any link between Australia and France, as the latter remains a Pacific power. It would have been ridiculous to mobilise NATO in the Indo-Pacific with the EU about to announce its own common defence plan. The US doesn’t want equals in its new alliance, but subordinates who look like equals. Australia has played that role for decades, knows it by heart. But the UK? Well, AUKUS from its end forms part of a new post-Brexit “global Britain” push. What could be more global than policing your old imperial waters? Does it actively want to do that? Maybe. Maybe not. The West Australian Newspaper is reporting that Scott Morrison has made sure to allocate time to meet and have a intimate dinner with Newscorp CEO Robert Thompson.
Scott Morrison was originally traveling to attend the QUAD meetings we were told. But it seems there is an alternate reason for the Prime Ministers international travel and was to also attend a meeting with Newscorp.
No doubt forthcoming election strategies were on high the agenda.
Moreover, tax payer money was used to fly the Prime Minister to the USA and like Scott Morrison's previous trip to the UK he has managed to fit some private activities to what he called a busy schedule of meetings.
What this does confirm is the fact The Liberal Party and Newscorp are one and the same with Newscorp only too willing to be the propaganda arm of the Liberal Party.
However, the question that must be answered is what is in it for Newscorp - and the answer on everyone's lips is the sale of the ABC and the SBS, this making Newscorp Australia's National Broadcaster.

Why has it still, until very recently, been intellectually respectable in Australia to be a climate change sceptic, when that is no longer tenable in most countries in the world?

At least partly because News Corporation has tethered the debate at that end of the spectrum.

News Corporation has been heading into an intellectual, financial and even existential dead end. Advertisers flinched. The chances of renewing the ageing readership were disappearing. As successive surveys show, the outlets were losing audience trust.

News Corporation will still be trying to shape the debate, but it has been forced to shift ground to do so. That’s significant.

It may be too late. News Corporation may already be losing its grip. It’s something to watch.

Why is the Australian government devoid of any original strategic tactics of it’s own? Every move they make is directly from Trump’s American Republican Party the GOP? They don’t appear to have any specific tactics that are in any way Australian. They aren’t in anyway transparent but only intent on gaslighting the Australian electorate.

Yesterday the federal government quietly appointed Lorraine Finlay as the next human rights commissioner. She is a Murdoch University legal academic and human trafficking specialist with the Australian mission to ASEAN. Media releases from Attorney-General Michaelia Cash and the Australian Human Rights Commission both praised Finlay’s academic expertise and work in international human rights law. But they neglected to mention hers deep ties to the Liberal Party, as a former upper house candidate in Western Australia and president of the state’s Liberal women’s council.
