Trump's tweeting turns a bad day into a disaster

Trump's tweeting turns a bad day into a disaster

During the tumultuous first three years of his presidency, Donald Trump has experienced some damaging days. This was up there with the worst.

As she was speaking, Trump jumped onto Twitter to lambast that witness - a move Democrats seized upon as a potential article of impeachment.
Then it was announced that one of the President's most longstanding allies, infamous "dirty trickster" Roger Stone, had been found guilty of multiple crimes and was headed to jail.
Her testimony delivered something more human: a compelling personal story of a career public servant and corruption fighter smeared and eventually thrown overboard by an American president and his allies.

Adam Schiff, the Democratic Chair of the House Intelligence Committee immediately grasped the tweet's potential as an article of impeachment.
"We take this kind of witness intimidation and obstruction of inquiry very seriously," he said.
Even loyal Trump supporters said it was a bad look for the President to attack a witness while she was testifying.

next week with Gordon Sondland, the US ambassador to the European Union, set to be the key witness. The Trump appointee amended his initial private testimony to confirm that there was a direct link between military aid for Ukraine and an investigation into the Bidens.

Former US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch is sworn in to testify.

'Witness intimidation in real time': Trump attacks ex-ambassador as she testifies

When asked about the effect of such attacks by the President on potential witnesses, the former ambassador to Ukraine said: "It's very intimidating."
Democrats are poised to add witness intimidation to their articles of impeachment against Donald Trump after the President attacked the former US ambassador to Ukraine on Twitter while she was testifying on Capitol Hill.
Marie Yovanovitch, a career diplomat who was removed from her posting in May, testified that the official US policy in Ukraine had been "hijacked" by a group of "shady" Ukrainians working alongside allies of the US President, including Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

Roger Stone is a longtime Republican provocateur.

Roger Stone found guilty of witness tampering, lying to Congress

Could this lead to charges of  "Witnesses Intimidation" being brought against Fox News, Sinclair and other "forever Trump" broadcasters and news opinionators screaming for blood? Needless to say, the can will be kicked up the road to SCOTUS the privately-owned court of  Trumpster judges. Democracy in America has been dealt a deadly blow by this President. (ODT)

A jury has convicted US President Donald Trump's adviser Roger Stone, finding the long-time Republican operative and self-proclaimed "dirty trickster" guilty on seven criminal counts of lying to Congress, obstruction and witness tampering.

The verdict, in a trial arising from investigations of Russian interference in the 2016 US election, is not only a blow to Stone but renews scrutiny on then-candidate Trump's activities at a time when he faces an impeachment inquiry that could derail his presidency.

NT cop charged with murder, but what happens next?

Posted
This is what will happen in the investigation into the death in custody of 19-year-old Kumanjayi Walker. Now Constable Zachary Rolfe has been charged with his murder. Is it any wonder that given the history of other cases of deaths in custody of Indigenous Australians, the Aboriginal community, along with most Australians, find suspicion in the process runs high?

The US offers to rescue Australian IS families in Syria

A US counter-terrorism official says the country's "military assets" could be used to get to eight Australian IS fighters and more than 60 women and children in northern Syria, a dangerous region that has become even more volatile since Turkey's offensive last month.

Speaking exclusively to the ABC, top US counter-terrorism official Nathan Sales said it was a serious problem, and all countries had a responsibility to take back their citizens.
He revealed the US had offered to help its Coalition partners by "facilitating" the return of foreign fighters and their families to their countries of origin.

Australians must get a sense of shame when they hear NZ offers to relocate 150 of the refugees in detention on Manus and Nauru and the LNP Government refuses to let them? Now the US offers to rescue the stranded IS families in Syria, particularly the 60 Australian women and children. While our government will do everything they can to prevent that happening? (ODT)

  1. Australia struggling to contain Chinese political interference, US warns

A US Congressional report says Australia is having limited success in countering Chinese political interference and suggests new joint military training bases could be set up across the Indo-Pacific to thwart Beijing.
The Americanisation of Australia is far too obvious:
One of the suggestions for Congress is to direct the Trump administration to "assess the viability and impact of establishing new military training centres hosted by Indo-Pacific allies and partners".Earlier this year, the ABC revealed discussions had begun for a possible new port facility just outside Darwin which could eventually help US Marines operate more readily in the Indo-Pacific.

 FAKE AND TWISTED NEWS

Bolt's Blog shows just how independent Bolt's lazy approach to commentary is. What a privileged position he has and just how wasted that is. An ad for the Spectator the most contrived conservative magazine makes up 10% of space while 33% constitutes space promoting the IPA the least trusted but most influential Think Tank in this country. One whose history supported the deaths of Australia's young men since post WW2 and then simply mythologising those deaths rather than publicly admitting they were wrong. Another 10% repetition of the forever innocence of George Pell with nothing new to add than I'm better than the British Justice System. 10% devoted to "suspicion " that "reverse racism" in the NT may have caused a knee jerk political reaction in letting a police officer charged with murder get bail. The Science of Climate Change receives another 33% accusing agencies of both fraud and whacky predictions. Bolt is just playing whack- a- mole rather than offering anything original that what the campaign to promote "safe smoking" did for years Bolt. He hardly stretches himself as an investigator of any sort really. While none of these reading directions are Bolt's own work, the sales pitch is nevertheless to read them as his. It indicates how his brain and mindset are applied. Generally, this flows on to repetition found in "The Bolt Report" and his Columns. It can be best described as unoriginal, even plagiarised but definitely the overproduced work of others.  (ODT)

ROSKAM: LIBS LOSE EVEN WHEN THEY WIN

John Roskam: "Labor has been so successful in the battle of ideas and so bad at elections... On the flip side, the Liberal Party has traditionally disdained philosophy for pragmatism. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with pragmatism. It wins you elections. But pragmatism doesn’t change anything."
