‘We have to do what is feasible’: Sutton unsure on zero-COVID chances

Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton says Victoria is “not going to achieve the impossible if it becomes impossible”, after the Premier said the state was still aiming for “very low numbers” of cases.

‘We have to do what is feasible’: Sutton unsure on zero-COVID chances

Doing what’s popular rather than what’s right at a time of crisis doesn’t seem to bode well for the future. Feast your eyes upon this, from an anonymous doctor in a western Sydney hospital: “We believe it likely that projected patient numbers will soon be overwhelming…from Westmead to Liverpool and Blacktown, ambulances now routinely line up in hospital carparks, unable to discharge their patients. What exactly is going on?”

Sobering sentiments, right there. And a question that verges on the rhetorical.

It’s the kind of event that many premiers – Victoria’s Daniel Andrews included – foreshadowed based on their health advice and brought about extensive lockdowns to avoid. This kind of activity has been taking place all over the world, notably in the US.

Five days ago, the Associated Press reported that the state of Arkansas ran out of intensive care unit beds for COVID-19 patients on Tuesday for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic began. Arkansas has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the US, with 40% of the state’s population fully vaccinated.

At the time of writing, 18.7 million doses had been administered in Australia, with 6.9 million people fully vaccinated. Noice. But still, that only represents 27.2% of the population, which according to my limited understanding of arithmetic is less than 70%. To quote Harvey Keitel in Pulp Fiction, “Let’s not start sucking each other’s dicks just yet.”

The ABC is also reporting – somewhat depressingly – an “…increase in COVID-19 positive residents refusing to self-isolate”. That’s hard to read, and even harder to comprehend. Asymptomatic people, fatigued from the third wave lockdown? You can kind of understand them doing this. Those who are asymptomatic but have been tested because of proximity to Tier 1 or Tier 2 exposure sites? At a pinch, you can see why it happens, even though it really shouldn’t. But diagnosed COVID-19 positive cases not self-isolating? That’s a dirty pool. Criminal negligence. Public floggings in Martin Place-type stuff.

In NSW, official words and actions look to be motivated by the people’s prevailing mood, rather than best medical practice. Say what you will about Daniel Andrews’ government, but nothing he’s been doing for the past 18 months has been textbook popularity contest-winning stuff.

FAKE NEWS AND MISINFORMATION EXPOSED

Andrew Bolt advocates Gladys from his Bolt hole in Melbourne

Andrew Bolt has been silent since the 12/8/21 and has decided to crawl out from under his rock to what looks like another word from the dead in this decaying political blog. The one he claims the be the most read in Australia. What an idiot Bolt is yes there are plenty of different ways to tackle Covid-19 however when compared Dan Andrews runs ahead of the pack. Bolt has stepped out to cheer Gladys in NSW. Praise her for showing us the way on how to deal with the virus. On what rational basis does Bolt arrive at his support other than a defeatist one. Bolt isn't even in Sydney or makes no suggestion that he's living with us the way Gladys says we should safe. Bolt doesn't even live in NSW or live the Berejiklian way at the best of times, "without fear." He remains as hidden as his most read blog is in Australia.

Sydney hospitals are under so much pressure that two have closed due to Covid and aren't accepting patients Westmead and Bankstown and others are 80% full and struggling why? The ambulance service is no longer functional as the the case numbers and community fear is through the roof. Case numbers keep increasing. It's not the case here in Melbourne where the numbers are only 6% of Sydney's and here is Bolt telling us to do it like Gladys.

Bolt maintains the UK is open and thriving with 80% vaccinated a figure that doesn't include it's children who are currently ravaged by Covid. Israel which was said to be leading the world in vaccination and resulting devil may care  freedom is experiencing a massive 3rd surge in case numbers and an impact on it's health system so much so it's issuing booster shots that they can't guarantee will stem the rising spread of cases. Shops, businesses and citizens are voluntarily locking down. Is there any place that has had success in limiting the spread?

Yes, Taiwan with strict restrictions. Restrictions as strict as Dan's who no doubt was  aware of their success. Success which Bolt conveniently fails to mention and ignores along with Israel's current failure and the UK's reversal. Bolt's argument simply doesn't hold up to any comparative scrutiny with other nations and in his ignorance is happy to see the least fortunate of us suffer because he believes he's one of the elect hidden away in his own private Bolt hole.

Australian public fed nonsense as country heads to “irreversible” decision. | by Matt Barrie | Aug, 2021 | Medium

“Countries that consistently aim for elimination — ie, maximum action to control SARS-CoV-2 and stop community transmission as quickly as possible — have generally fared better than countries that opt for mitigation — ie, action increased in a stepwise, targeted way to reduce cases so as not to overwhelm health-care systems.”

The very opposite of the Berejiklian's approach in NSW that Bolt so admires is a model of disaster

Daniel Andrews keeps telling a big lie about his sixth lockdown of Melbourne – the devastating “seven-day lockdown” he’s now extended into a fifth week. At least.

“There is no other way,” the Victorian premier claims.

Bull. Yes, there is another way, and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian on Sunday boasted that she’s showing it.

MAD DAN CLAIMS THERE’S ‘NO OTHER WAY’. THERE IS. CHECK NSW

When the NZ Christchurch Massacre occured Murdoch's Sky News was shut down by NZ's government for irresponsibly showing the massacre live for over 19 minutes. Andrew Bolt was accused of inciting and inspiring right-wing crazies like Brenton Tarrant, spurring them into action. Bolt, as he often does, when the heat is on went into hiding and silence for a number of days after before coming out doing a Trump condemning violence of any sort. Yes, he was like Trump suggesting an equivalence in violence on both the left and the right that it was the same on both sides, when the opposite is patently true. The worst massacres and violence enacted tends to be carried out not by the left but the self-righteous alt-right neo-Nazi minded freaks that Bolt calls patriots and invites on his show.

After the Barcelona bombings Bolt openly told us of how he admired the conviction the Islamist bombers gave to their cause and he wished young Christians were the same. That they had the balls to fight for what they (he) believed as those young Islamists did. If that isn't a cry in support of incorrect violence what is?

The SAS hasn't been disbanded it exists and will continue to. It is doing it's job "some members" however have been accused by their own team of war crimes who provided evidence to be tested in our courts. The duty and charter of journalism is to report news information and the facts not hide or filter it and that's exactly what the ABC is doing, when reporting the allegations made. So no, the SAS isn't being smeared some acting illegally within it are being questioned for their criminal behaviour and culture brought to light by their SAS accusers members of the team and the ABC is their reporter.

Who the fuck is Andrew Bolt apologizing to, it's not the SAS, but the accused. Meanwhile the SAS couldn't give a second thought to Bolt's grandstanding apology they too want the issue resolved. Bolt's self-aggrandising and is hoping for another George Pell moment in the case of Robert Smith. It's his usual bet each way approach in relief we are witness to. If wrong he won't mention it again and it will fade away lost in the 24/7 news cycle. If Smith is proved guilty however, we will see Bolt light up like Haley's comet. Basically Bolt's a waste of time writing in a paper that has now only 25% of the readers that it had once when Bolt began working for it. The total audience, watching the Bolt Report in a week, is lucky to be 25% of what the free to air stations capture each night. Bolt's been going backwards since he lost the patronage of Tony Abbott.

Andrew Bolt puts himself above Generals, Politicians and everyone all of whom he maintains is smearing the SAS including the SAS itself who brought the complaints to bear which we are hearing today. Complaints that Bolt claims would be better suppressed. Has Bolt ever done any investigative journalism? Anything that has been as universally promoted as Mark Willacy's report and his  now book? Bolt's most noted writings have resulted in him to being sued for defamation, or charged under the RDA many more complaints suppressed his favorite defense. He's been called a liar by those once close to him and accused of little more than being an attention seeker.

Just as the SAS were saving Australians in peril - this time in Afghanistan - they were smeared by the ABC. Worse, they were smeared by an ABC which claimed that a song they sang to remember the fallen was actually a song to celebrate war crimes. But which general has defended them?

To the soldiers of the SAS, I apologise that you were smeared by the ABC last Wednesday, at the moment you were risking your lives to save Australians in Afghanistan.

I apologise that none of your generals or politicians then protested at the ABC choosing that very instant to falsely paint you as “unaccountable” drunks and “deviants” with a mind to “murder”.

Those leaders should have roared in outrage, but I heard not a squeak as our national broadcaster again made mock of uniforms that guard us while we sleep.

On Wednesday, SAS soldiers were wrapping up one of the most critical missions in their distinguished history – the rescue of more than 4000 Australians and Afghan allies from Kabul airport amid the deadly chaos of the Taliban takeover.

Just one day later, we learnt what danger they’d faced. Suicide bombers murdered about 200 people at the airport gates, including 13 US soldiers.

But Wednesday was also when the ABC’s 7.30 program chose to air a report, Inside the Drinking Culture of the SAS, to promote a new book by ABC journalist Mark Willacy.

HOW THE ABC STITCHED UP THE SAS, JUST AS IT SAVED AUSTRALIANS AGAIN
