"The Coalition is very committed to doing the absolute least required"

Government shows commitment to reducing waste by developing environmental policy on back of envelope

Is Australia any different? Only in that our labour shortages are presently more patchy. The Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry called for the numbers of skilled migrants to be doubled to 200,000 people a year. And a terrifying ABC piece recently celebrated the introduction of a Hunger Games employment paradigm for local strawberry picking. Ten strawberry pickers were to be given a one in a hundred chance of winning a $100,000 bonus in a lottery if they signed on to the job. Employers could have, of course, just paid those people an extra $1,000. I guess they didn’t want the employees to share collective confidence in their own labour value.

That would rather cause the whole rotten system to come crashing down, wouldn’t it? And that – as the neoliberals and employers know – is the truth that lies beneath.

So what jobs did JobKeeper actually save and what jobs did JobMaker really create if there is that much desperation coming out of the pandemic? We know they casualised the labor force gave workers the opportunity of 3 jobs that made them poorer and still unable to pay their bills. It's what Gower referred to when she said  " We need to harness the proles".

This nation's future might better be harnessed by a restructuring of our corporate systems from adversarial to cooperative, progressive and looking for beneficial outcomes for everyone and not just billionaires CEOs and their shareholders who largely account for 1% of Australia.

In 1776, the United States was founded in North America. It boasted of being the city upon the hill and that its mission was to promote "democracy" to the world.

Yet what it loves most is war. During its 245 years of existence, less than 20 have been without a war.

By massacring the Indigenous peoples and grabbing territory from Mexico, it expanded to the western coast of the continent;

By selling weapons and materials to belligerents, it made a big fortune in the two world wars. It became a superpower and has intervened around the world.

The US people pay for the militarism of their politicians, because the huge costs of war are paid by them in taxes.

And many US soldiers suffer from post-traumatic stress on returning home. From 2008 to 2016, data show that 6,000 US veterans committed suicide each year.

Donald Trump addresses a rally in Washington on 6 January, shortly before his supporters launched an attack on the Capitol to try to prevent certification of Joe Biden’s election victory.

Donald Trump is preparing to sue to block the release of White House records from his administration to the House select committee scrutinizing the 6 January attack on the Capitol by claiming executive privilege, potentially touching off an extended legal battle over disclosure. The former president also expects top aides – former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, strategist Steve Bannon and defense department aide Kash Patel – to defy select committee subpoenas for records and testimony. Trump’s moves to try to resist the select committee, informed by a source familiar with his planning, are likely to lead to constitutional clashes in court that would test the power of Congress’s oversight authority over the executive branch.

Why has it still, until very recently, been intellectually respectable in Australia to be a climate change sceptic, when that is no longer tenable in most countries in the world?

At least partly because News Corporation has tethered the debate at that end of the spectrum.

News Corporation has been heading into an intellectual, financial and even existential dead end. Advertisers flinched. The chances of renewing the ageing readership were disappearing. As successive surveys show, the outlets were losing audience trust.

News Corporation will still be trying to shape the debate, but it has been forced to shift ground to do so. That’s significant.

It may be too late. News Corporation may already be losing its grip. It’s something to watch.

Why is the Australian government devoid of any original strategic tactics of it’s own? Every move they make is directly from Trump’s American Republican Party the GOP? They don’t appear to have any specific tactics that are in any way Australian. They aren’t in anyway transparent but only intent on gaslighting the Australian electorate.

Yesterday the federal government quietly appointed Lorraine Finlay as the next human rights commissioner. She is a Murdoch University legal academic and human trafficking specialist with the Australian mission to ASEAN. Media releases from Attorney-General Michaelia Cash and the Australian Human Rights Commission both praised Finlay’s academic expertise and work in international human rights law. But they neglected to mention hers deep ties to the Liberal Party, as a former upper house candidate in Western Australia and president of the state’s Liberal women’s council. They also overlooked her years spent vocally taking positions that might put her at odds with the AHRC.

Abetz labels allegations against him by Sue Hickey ‘disgraceful’

Abetz labels allegations against him by Sue Hickey ‘disgraceful’

Liberal Senator Eric Abetz has labelled the allegations made against him regarding offensive comments about Brittany Higgins as “disgraceful”. Speaker of the Tasmanian Parliament Sue Hickey was effectively sacked from the Liberal Party over the weekend when Premier Peter Gutwein informed her of the decision not to endorse her pre-selection for the upcoming state election. The now independent speaker told parliament under parliamentary privilege that the federal Senator spoke to her on March 1 and said Ms Higgins could have jeopardised Australia’s national security by being “so disgustingly drunk”. “As for that Higgins girl, anybody so disgustingly drunk who would sleep with anybody could have slept with one of our spies and put the security of the nation at risk,” Mr Abetz allegedly said. In an exclusive interview with Sky News host Andrew Bolt, Senator Abetz “categorically denied” the assertions. “Given my history in these matters, I would never have said words that have now been escribed to me by Ms Hickey, they are repulsive,” he said. “One can expect or suspect that the only reason is that she’s brought this up three weeks later because the premier on Sunday showed her the door from the Liberal Party because of her gross disloyalty and lack of teamsmanship.”

The key here is it's  a statement solely in the defense of Eric Abetz and it might be regarded by a normal person as being totally one sided one. Abetz's " “Given my history in these matters," could be the key to determining the "truth" of his guilt. Eric Abetz, in fact, does have a long and shocking history of ignorance, bullshit delivered publicly and even within his own party which Bolt certainly hasn't raised. Be reminded Abetz gave a character reference to the Victorian branch of a person caught defrauding the Tasmanian branch in order to get him a job here. All hush hush, but then Abetz's man of good character defrauded the Victorian LNP of a $1mill. Sue Hickey doesn't have any sort of history comparable to Eric Abetz'.  She certainly wasn't invited on Bolt's show to debate the good Senator.

Secondly Abetz chose Andrew Bolt a well known branded misogynist's show on which to emphatically declare his innocence to Bolt's supportive misogynistic ear and fast shrinking minimal audience, since it's cancellation by WIN broadcasting, rather than the hard hitting and investigative ABC.

These men displaya degree of misogyny written at a "psychologically cellular level" with their displayed attack on Ms Hickey and declaring her an encumbrance to the Liberal Party due to her "gross disloyalty and lack of teamsmanship.” It shows Party loyalty is more important than the individual emphasizing it's not the "Broad Church" Howard maintained it was. The only visible difference for Hickey's sacking from the Tassie Broad Church is that she is a woman.

History 'littered with examples of people doing vile things' because they believe they are 'more virtuous'

History ‘littered with examples of people doing vile things’ because they believe they are ‘more virtuous’

History is "littered with examples" of people doing the most vile things, not because they want to be bad or evil, but because they believe they are more virtuous and what they are doing is for the good of all humanity, says Sky News host Rowan Dean. "Funnily enough, graffiti artist Banksy put it best when he said there is nothing more dangerous than someone who wants to make the world a better place," he said. "Teachers are now teaching kids there is something noble about violence... let's not forget, it was the Extinction Rebellion protests... in London, where a man died because the traffic jam caused by Extinction Rebellion meant his ambulance didn't get him to hospital in time. "The head of that protest, a woman, said that death was absolutely, perfectly excusable because what they were doing was in the greater good of saving the planet from climate change... when specifically asked whether she would do it again, she said yes."

Rowan Dean straight out the gate sets the morality bar as low as possible when trying to say "he's not Banksy's "dangerous person". His bar is on the ground a snake would need a shovel to go lower. Dean doesn't want to make the world a better place and has no ideals or values other than his own and which are clearly resistant to any change. He has had historic, undeserved and unexplained privilege that doesn't according to him need any close examination.  Rowan Dean simply says there is no place for righteous anger because anger is universal and toxic. Whether  women, indigenous Australians or anyone systemically unprivileged. Yet he and Sky News supported the Capitol Hill riots condemned marriage equality and keep silent about deaths in custody.

According to him there is no place for Extinction Rebellion while there is for the government sponsored killing and torture of "Asylum Seekers" which the LNP of course  calls "illegals". Terminology that goes against the grain of all global international conventions and agreements.

History is a record of "righteous anger" and citizen right of protest. Violence against the resistance to change is minimal compared to conservative push back. Protest tends to be in the name of "progress". It's not the equivalence that Trump said it was at Charlottesville that it's on both sides and certainly not what Dean is echoing here.

Dean believes in the inherited Colonial and capitalist system but hides the Inglorious means by which British Empire went about achieving it. He ignores the violence it took to bring us to where we are today and what established his unearned privilege and cultural capital despite being an unessential productive force in our society. Dean is the echo chamber the remanent voice that was and still is Trump. There is a difference between right and wrong and they aren't simply relative or depend on might being right.

'Never be fooled by alarmists' who predict an event 'forever and ever'

‘Never be fooled by alarmists’ who predict an event ‘forever and ever’

Sky News host Rowan Dean says we should "never be fooled by the alarmists" who grab one event and "predict it forever and ever". Climate watchers have claimed 'one-in-100 year' rain could become the norm despite claiming Australia would likely become 'permanently dry' back in 2014. "They told us snow would disappear by 2020 - they told us that in 2000, they repeated it as recently as 2014," he said

What Dean failed to mention was the "extremes" of weather being due to Climate change. That Science is a methodology tested over time. It conservative in nature apolitical and evidence based. The information collected over the past 70 years is stacked against him and has drawn the attention of the major respected institutions globally. News Corp is a single corporation paid to contest the science and simply create doubt.

If only 5% of the change we have seen has been man made that alone would constitute a massive shift to the planet's complex balance.

The claim ‘black killers are shot, white killers arrested’ is ‘not true at all’

Journalist Andy Ngo says the claim that 'black killers are killed while white killers are arrested’ is simply “not true at all” in the wake of the Boulder, Colorado shooting by Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa. “No that’s not true at all," he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “It’s all about narratives. If you break down and you look at how many instances of suspects who are apprehended who are carrying out violent crimes who are not killed and they happen to be people of colour – these people are never counted. “I don’t understand what these leftists are trying to say. Are they saying police should be more brutal and kill every violent criminal suspect? “I think that if Alissa had been killed in Colorado certainly the headlines from left-wing bias media would be that this is ‘police too quick to shoot somebody who looks Muslim or looks Arab’.”
