In the history if this country when have we really had to defend ourselves? Since WW2 did we go to Korea, Vietnam, Timor, Afghanistan, Iraq to defend ourselves? Who are our potential aggressors? Nth Korea, China, Indonesia, Asylum Seekers or just those created for political advantage. Communist hordes were going to sweep in from the north. Now it's religious fanatics because Muslims love war and we don't.
I do realise our diplomatic skills have fallen short of the mark at the moment but even so Bolt doesn't name or shame any potential aggressors. Nor does he mind enhancing the profits of the industrial military complex and improving their bottom line. His call for the best defense at the cheapest cost sound like a call to privatize our defense forces. Who should we throw our hard earned taxpayer billions at the US, UK, French, Israelis, Russians Japanese or the cheapest of the lot the Chinese? They could equip us at quarter the cost.
The formula of politicians when having no political agenda has been to create fear in order to increase National Security so they can tell the electorate that our safety is of prime concern. It's why Bolt is discrediting Abbott's policy. In order to build fear you can't be populist and appear to be creating jobs. We can never create a defense force capable of securing this country it's too large. By the time we develop one that up to Bolt's standard it will be again be obsolete. The Industrial Military Complex is never satisfied it's the biggest industry in the world. Would Bolt wish to send his sons to feed it. He cries war escalate in Iraq bomb Iran. Would he volunteer his family go? Is he as Australian as the Flanagans were?( see his blog further down the page)
Surely our greatest defense is helping to rid the world of poverty and increase diplomacy?

How many lives might have been saved from drowning and Australia's Guantanamos Manus and Nauru. Seems no point for others to resign none are Speaker of the House. B Bishop is still and MP she hasn't resigned!!!. Andrew Bolt conveniently overlooks this in his eargerness to attack the "tribe". He claims conservatives are all individuals however they are all under Abbott's thumb and have to act accordingly. It was good to see Albo put Bolt in his box when that happens Bolt shows his discomfort and it's " er lets er move on" Ending with "thank you AA for your TIME" with squared jaw.
But why is Bolt hiding Tony Abbott? Yet again he has to bring out Greg Sheridan so they can both wax lyrical about what a nice guy he really is. 30 years in politics and apparently he feels it necessary to be a liar rather than show his true self... give us a break. Bolt's might as well be talking about Casper the Ghost.

First let me say as a writer Martin Flanagan towers over Andrew Bolt and of them both Flanagan's style is all Australian and true blue. Bolt well his writing is little more than corporate barbarism it ha s purpose yes but it has no cultural value.
Andrew Bolt makes an ass of himself with the above quote as he has publicly said that as a young man he felt more Dutch than he did Australian. It's why he went to live in Aaslesmere. He never had any empathy for the Australian way of life until he was in his 30's Is he now denying he ever said this? Was Anne Summers that wrong when she wrote it? Flanagan has only taken the words that Bolt has said himself about his father in law having introduced him to the Australian way of life after his marriage. Up until then Bolt did express some resentments of us.
So Flanagan is perfectly right when he said
